Job summary

Corning is seeking an engineer to reduce defects by eliminating root causes and improving process performance. You will work with suppliers and apply DMAIC and advanced statistical tools to meet customer needs.

The role focuses on improving manufacturing cost, quality, uptime and safety while documenting SOPs and SOP changes. Travel within NC and to domestic sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering; master's preferred.
• 3–5 years' experience solving process problems in engineering/manufacturing.
• Strong data-driven decision making and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and development of new or improved processes at Corning facilities worldwide.
• Lead and support problem solving using KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma methods.
• Champion the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems in manufacturing operations.
• Document SOP/SOS, plan experiments, and mentor operators on processes.

Scope of Position:

• In this role, you will use your creativity, good judgment and flexibility to reduce defects by eliminating root causes.
• You will work with suppliers to improve performance and ensure that the measurement/inspection system meets the customers’ needs.
• You will also have the opportunity to improve processes and solve problems based on fundamental understanding gained through the use of the scientific method by applying DMAIC and advanced statistical tools.
• Improving manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety are other areas you can strive to positively effect by evaluating new raw materials, new equipment, or new process parameters.
• You are also responsible for documenting SOP, SOS, experiment planning, and process changes and your projects could support any Corning division or research and development.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
• Lead and support solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem-solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma.
• Championing the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations, as well as use your analytical skills to analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.).
• Other responsibilities include measuring and communicating performance against established objectives, reviewing and interpreting data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc., and documenting processes and mentoring operators and peers on defined processes

Travel Requirements:

• Travel is primarily within NC region, but potential to other domestic production facilities. Frequency and duration vary according to project stage and status but is expected to be up to 75%.

Required Education and Skills:

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering (master’s preferred)
• 3-5 years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding

• Ability to apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects

• Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
