Job Overview:

Linde is launching a new world-class hydrogen plant in Beaumont, TX! Join us in breaking new ground and become a part of this exciting journey!

Linde has built and will begin operating an on-site complex to supply clean hydrogen and nitrogen to one of our largest clients in Beaumont, TX. Our new facility is ready to launch and will be integrated into our extensive U.S. Gulf Coast industrial gas infrastructure. It will also supply clean hydrogen to other new and existing off-takers across the network. As one of the world’s leading industrial gases and engineering companies, we are playing a key role in the clean energy transition.

Linde is actively supporting our customers to decarbonize their operations with the latest technologies for clean hydrogen and carbon capture, and by leveraging our world-class engineering organization, our existing hydrogen infrastructure, and operational expertise.

Provide technical and project support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and monitoring of process controls systems for the Linde Gases United States (LGUS) Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide (HYCO) business. The position reports to the HYCO Process Controls Engineering Manager.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support process control and monitoring systems nationally for hydrogen and carbon monoxide facilities in Linde LGUS, consisting mainly of Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), Autothermal Reformer (ATR), and Air Separation Units (ASU).
  • Lead and execute moderately complex engineering projects with minimal supervision.
  • Work closely with Linde Engineering Americas (LEA) to ensure projects meet standards in accordance with Linde policies and procedures.
  • Actively involved in the planning of Control System Upgrade activities for HYCO plants nationally to prevent obsolescence.
  • Perform project engineering and maintenance work from design to implementation and ensure adherence to Linde Guidelines and Standards.
  • Participate as a key contributor on projects and serve as a technical lead as well as providing technical guidance to others as required.
  • Work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision based on full awareness of viability, cost, and other benefits.
  • Develop and implement innovative process controls solutions to chronic issues.
  • Provide primary control system hardware/software support, instrumentation, and process engineering/optimization to a variety of field personnel including operations technicians, instrument technicians, process engineering, and various members of the operations management teams.
  • Provide support in the areas of training, troubleshooting, environmental compliance, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and preventative/corrective maintenance, focusing on all areas of advanced process control systems.
  • Ensure control system changes are implemented in accordance with Linde Management of Change (MOC) protocols.
  • Actively involved in the planning, identification, and development of long-range capital programs, especially in the area of control system upgrades and capital forecasting.
  • Demonstrate significant technical independence, excellent project management skills, and leadership in the development of control systems applications and safety standards.
  • Play an active role and lead aspects of projects involving Control Systems.
  • Ensure equipment for new projects meets Linde Standards and Specifications.
  • Represent US HYCO business in the rollout and implementation of Cyber Security.
  • Write, Update, and Execute Functional Test Procedures.
  • Provide off-hours support to resolve control system problems.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in SRS, SIL ratings, and ISA84 requirements.
  • Travel nationally to other US locations as required for support (up to 25%).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or 10 years or more experience in Control Systems or Computer Related Field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of chemical industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Process Automation including design/implementation of complex control strategies.
  • Advanced understanding of continuous chemical processes.
  • Working knowledge of primary instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with schematic wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with process control content of P&ID diagrams.
  • Experience with managing Control System Upgrades.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert level experience in software programming and configuration, operator HMI, hardware and software, and control network architecture for one out of the following platforms: Foxboro, Emerson Delta V, Emerson SIS, Allen-Bradley PLC5, Allen-Bradley Control Logix, Siemens PCS7.
  • Virtualization experience using DeltaV Virtual Studio, HyperV, and Failover Cluster Manager.
  • Ability to perform Windows and control system security updates manually.
  • Proficient working knowledge in the hydrogen process specifically around SMR and ATR.
  • Proficient working knowledge in the Air Separation process (ASU).
  • Project Management experience.
  • Advanced process troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience supporting small to medium size capital projects.
  • Ability to conduct Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, and participate in commissioning and startup activities.
  • Experience in SCADA platforms such as GE Intellution iFIX or equivalent.
  • Polyglot programmer that is versed in Python, C++, Java, etc., and can develop engineering tools to facilitate tasks.
  • Ability to design, develop, and execute logic and projects for control systems on large industrial facilities.
  • Ability to develop and modify control narratives, cause and effect diagrams, various forms of control logic, and operator graphics.
  • Experience configuring 3rd party device endpoints using serial, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus communications.
