Job Title: Sr Principal Product Engineer

Purpose:

As a Sr. Principal Product Engineer within the Product Solutions group, you will be the subject matter expert on probe card performance, applications, and use conditions. You will take on complex product challenges, designing innovative solutions that enhance product reliability and functionality. Collaborating closely with design, manufacturing, and customer teams, you will ensure new products meet performance, quality, and manufacturability standards. Your role will also include providing on-site technical expertise for product launches and scaling at customer locations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement installation, testing, and support strategies for new probe card products based on insights from internal testing.

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, conducting root cause analyses and developing prototypes to validate solutions.

  • Partner with product development teams to optimize designs for real-world customer applications.

  • Translate customer needs and challenges into actionable product improvements and new capabilities.

  • Design and execute specialized probe card performance tests to address specific customer requirements.

  • Aggregate customer feedback and technical learnings into product enhancements and future design recommendations.


Required Skills & Experience:


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Experience: Minimum 6 years of relevant industry experience (fewer with advanced degrees).

  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including thermal-mechanical considerations and mechanical design.

  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing and experimental design.

  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and failure analysis techniques, including DOE, 8D, FMEA, SPC, and document control.

  • Expertise in CAD software for product design and analysis.

  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to interface with cross-functional teams and customers.

  • Willingness to travel up to 15% (domestic and international) for on-site support and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to work in a Class 1000 cleanroom environment as needed.


Preferred Skills:


  • Experience with probe card technology and semiconductor test solutions.

  • Familiarity with process engineering methodologies and continuous improvement practices.





The pay range for this role in Livermore, CA is between $136,200 and $178,815. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
