Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr Principal/Principal Avionics Radar Engineer to join the Avionics Integration Organization.

Location

This role is located onsite in Melbourne, Florida.

Clearance and Travel

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required at start: Yes (Secret). Travel: Yes, 25% of the time.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support for radar performance analysis, including analyzing radar design and working with key suppliers to develop and test advanced radar systems.
  • Create aircraft system schematics to support wiring diagrams.
  • Support flight test activities and post‑flight data analysis, resolving flight test anomalies.
  • Contribute to proposals and presentations for new business opportunities, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to bring new radar technologies to market.
  • Support verification of aircraft avionics and prime mission equipment installations and aircraft certification documents such as SSOWs, PDIRs, and SCDs.
  • Develop radar requirements and analysis, supporting trade studies.
  • Informally and formally test subsystem requirements in laboratory settings, troubleshooting hardware avionics equipment.
  • Manage suppliers, review and analyze supplier design data, define functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.
  • Provide technical support to other departments, including sales and production.
  • Stay current with the latest industry developments and technologies.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 5–8 years of experience, Master’s degree and 3–6 years of experience, or PhD and 0–4 years of experience (degree level determines required experience).
  • Working knowledge of radar principles and experience with computer simulations, mathematical modeling, and programming.
  • Radio Frequency (RF) and Microwave Engineering: knowledge of RF and microwave components, circuits, and their behavior.
  • Antenna Design and Optimization: experience designing, analyzing, and optimizing antennas for radar applications.
  • Signal Processing: proficiency in digital signal processing techniques for radar data, including filtering, detection, and tracking.
  • Minimum requirement: active US Government Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Supplier management experience.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages for radar modeling and simulation.
Salary

Primary Level: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00. Secondary Level: $122,800.00 – $184,200.00. Salary offers are determined by role scope, experience, education, and current market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for certain positions, long‑term incentives.
