Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems seeks a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer (Level 4) for the Integration and Test team in Launch Systems at the Chandler, AZ facility. Position is 100% on-site with relocation assistance not available.

Responsibilities include leading hands-on electrical testing, developing test procedures, and guiding cross-functional engineers. Travel 10–20% is expected; security clearance required for government work.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years with a BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • MS in Electrical Engineering provides additional qualification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Secret clearance.
  • Hands-on electrical testing and diagnostic experience.
  • Experience with cleanroom operations (ISO-6/ISO-7).
  • Familiarity with Space Environment test requirements (thermal vacuum, vibration, etc.).
  • Knowledge of aerospace standards and guidelines.
  • Experience leading/training junior engineers.

Job description

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer (Level 4) to be part of our Integration and Test team in Launch Systems, at our Chandler, AZ facility. This position will be 100% on‑site in Chandler. Relocation assistance is not available.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead/direct, perform hands‑on electrical testing at a systems level.
  • Develop/maintain procedures for the assembly and test of launch vehicle systems.
  • Incorporate hardware and/or software design changes.
  • Document and disposition hardware discrepancies, pursue root cause and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and schedule day‑to‑day integration and test activities across engineering disciplines; communicate with lead engineers, and lead and participate in daily status meetings.
  • Lead, train, and task cross‑functional engineers and team members.
  • Transfer knowledge to less experienced I&T engineers.
  • Assert producibility and testability concepts into early design phases.
  • Oversee all I&T bay and cleanroom activities to ensure compliance with safety standards, Launch Systems procedures, processes, and command media.
  • Ensure special test equipment is maintained, calibrated, and ready for use.
Basic Qualifications
  • 8 years with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; 6 years with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with cleanroom operations – e.g., ISO‑6, ISO‑7.
  • Hands‑on electrical testing and diagnostic experience.
  • Understanding of Space Environment test requirements – thermal vacuum, cycle testing, vibration and shock testing, etc.
  • Experience working with operational hazards such as propulsive devices, pressurized systems, overhead lifting, high‑voltage systems, and laser systems.
  • Experience with aerospace standards/guidelines.
  • Experience with documenting and dispositioning hardware discrepancies, and pursuing root cause and corrective actions.
  • Experience with MES or other digital work instruction platform.
  • Experience leading/training junior engineers and/or team members.
  • Ability to travel: travel expectation 10‑20%.

  • Extensive understanding of Space Environment test requirements – thermal vacuum, cycle testing, vibration and shock testing, etc.
  • Extensive experience working with operational hazards such as propulsive devices, pressurized systems, overhead lifting, and high‑voltage systems.
  • Extensive experience with aerospace standards/guidelines.
  • Experience performing formal requirements decomposition and/or verification.
  • Experience with external customer interfacing including meetings, presentations and negotiations.
  • Extensive experience with MES, or other digital work instruction platform.
Work Schedule & Compensation
  • Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 – $184,200.00.
  • Salary may include overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
  • Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and share in company results.
  • Eligibility for Long‑Term Incentives for certain positions.
  • Provides health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
  • We work a 9/80 schedule (9 hours per day Mon‑Thurs, 8 hours every other Friday with alternate Friday off).
