Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Tooling Engineer to design and analyze tooling for manufacturing composite and metallic parts using 3D modeling and FEA.

You will lead design reviews, ensure manufacturability, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver on schedule and budget across programs. Candidates should have a STEM degree, a PE certification, and a track record in tooling design, NX modeling, GD&T, and lead-scale projects with minimal supervision; DoD clearance and Special

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in STEM with 8+ years in mechanical/design/tooling or Masters with 6+ years; PhD with 4+ years.
  • P.E. Certification in Structural or Machine Design and Materials.
  • Structural analysis experience (FEA and hand calculations).
  • Experience with tooling for composite and metallic parts manufacture.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DoD clearance and Special Program Access.

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings for tooling manufacturing across programs.
  • Design safe, effective tooling for manufacture, test, qualify, and transport.
  • Schedule and run 30/60/90% design reviews with customers.
  • Collaborate with customers to design support equipment for programs.
  • Coordinate with Tool Engineering to meet timelines and budgets.
  • Monitor budgets and schedules for own tasks.
  • Review drawings for manufacturability and perform FEA as needed.
  • Review and seal safety-critical tool designs.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to to following:
  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings to be used in the manufacturing of new tooling in support of various programs.
  • Create effective and safe designs that are used to manufacture, test, qualify, and transport product.
  • Schedule and run 30/60/90% Design Reviews to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the design cycle.
  • Work with internal Customers to conceptualize and design support equipment for new and existing programs.
  • Work closely with other Tool Engineering functions to provide designs on time and within budget.
  • Understand and monitor budget and schedule for own tasks.
  • Review Engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability.
  • Analyze moderate to complex tool designs using FEA and hand calculations
  • Review, sign, and seal safety critical tool designs
Basic Qualifications:
Sr. Principal Tooling Engineer Level 4:
  • Bachelors in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 8 years of experience in the following engineering fields; Mechanical, Design, Tooling, Manufacturing, Die, Product, Mechanical or similar OR Masters in STEM with 6 years of experience in mentioned fields OR PhD In STEM field with 4 years of experience.
  • P.E. Certification in Structural or Machine Design and Materials
  • Structural Analysis experience (FEA and hand calculations)
  • Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite and metallic parts
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance per company and or business needs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access per company and or business needs
  • Experience with Solid modeling (NX Preferred)
  • Experience with manufacturing processes
  • Experience written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with 2D drawing preparation and analysis
  • Experience with GD&T practice and implementation
  • Experiencing leading larger scale projects with minimal to no supervision, working with autonomy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active U.S. Government Clearance
  • Active Special Program Access (PAR)
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrated experience with NX modeling
  • Experience in Mechanical Design and Assembly
  • Experience with managing small to medium size design projects
  • Familiarity with OSHA specs for design safety
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrated experience with NX modeling
  • Experience with managing small to medium size design projects

Primary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.

Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
