Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer in Melbourne, FL to contribute to design, analysis, manufacture, and testing of aircraft support equipment. You will lead mechanical design tasks, data gathering, supplier interfacing, and basic stress analysis for military aircraft.

The role requires a STEM degree with extensive relevant experience and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance. Occasional travel to site locations is expected.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 8 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 6 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 4 years of relevant military / professional experience.
  • Experience using CAD software in generating detailed engineering drawings used for manufacturing mechanical and/or electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of test, measurement, and handling equipment used on military aircraft.
  • Gathering data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers, and performing basic stress and tolerance analysis
  • Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives
  • Development of test plans and performing environmental testing of Support Equipment
  • Testing and integration of manufactured Support Equipment on aircraft
  • Basic knowledge of design and analysis tools for mechanical design as well as basic drafting skills to include a working knowledge of solid modeling techniques (NX, Pro Engineer, or Catia).
  • The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
  • Candidate must also be willing to occasionally travel to various site locations to demonstrate the function of the designed Support Equipment.

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The selected candidate will contribute in the research, design, analysis, manufacture, and testing associated with aircraft Support Equipment.

Basic Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • experience in the design of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical subsystems
  • Current, active in-scope U.S. Government Secret or higher security clearance
  • Ability to obtain additional Special Access Program (SAP) access
  • Experience using FEA software in performance of stress analysis of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies to include static and dynamic analysis to MIL-STD-810 requirements
  • FAA A&P Certificate or equivalent aircraft maintenance background
  • Experience developing manufacturing drawings to GD&T standards

Primary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
