Overview

RELOCATION ASSISTANCE: Relocation assistance may be available. CLEARANCE REQUIRED FOR START: Yes. CLEARANCE TYPE: Top Secret. TRAVEL: Yes, 25% of the Time.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer to support the Sentinel program. This position is located in Roy, UT. The Flight Systems Futures operating unit within Strategic Deterrent Systems focuses on the design, development, and demonstration of hypersonic re-entry vehicles and advanced payloads, with an emphasis on rapid development and prototyping aligned to specific customer missions. The team works in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment to mature innovative concepts into credible, testable solutions addressing strategic deterrence needs.

Responsibilities
  • Author clear, testable requirements and verification plans for electrical subsystems.
  • Review and assess vendor-provided technical data (schematics, datasheets, test reports) for compliance with program requirements.
  • Support and update the program MBSE model, maintaining traceability among requirements, interfaces, and verification items.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and test engineers to capture cross-domain impacts and resolve conflicts.
  • Participate in design, trade, and verification reviews; provide status updates to program leadership.
  • Follow Northrop Grumman configuration control and documentation standards.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of experience, or 6 years of experience with a Master’s degree, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
  • U.S. Citizenship with an active DoD Top Secret Clearance; ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable period of time.
  • 3+ years’ experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and component datasheets; familiarity with verification matrices, test procedures, and traceability documentation for electrical hardware.
  • 1+ years experience in model-based engineering concepts; ability to work with and maintain system models.
  • 1+ years experience with industry/military codes and standards (mil-specs, IEEE, NEC, NESC, NFPA, IEC, UFC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience generating and maintaining requirements in an MBSE model using CAMEO Systems Modeler (or equivalent SysML tool).
  • Prior involvement with electrical subsystems for nuclear surety or nuclear safety programs.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Perforce, Git) and PLM systems.
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or similar certification.
  • Knowledge of Northrop Grumman engineering processes (CMMI, MIL-STD-498, DO-178C/DO-254).
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to produce concise status reports and present technical information to cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with high-power and/or high-frequency systems (power electronics); knowledge of EMI/EMC design, shielding, and thermal management for electronic systems.
  • Authorship and release of engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test procedures.

Salary and EEO

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00. Offers consider factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may be available. Annual bonuses may reward individual contributions and company results. Long Term Incentives may apply for VP/Director roles.
