Job description

Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal/ Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer in support of the Sentinel program. This position is located in Roy, UT.

What You’ll Get To Do

The Command System team oversees the ground design of multiple electrical components required at different Sentinel weapon system facilities located across the nation.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Attending internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings
  • Support formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates
  • Working in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels
  • Ensure appropriate coordination between electrical design and other integration teams
  • Coordinate electrical system engineering content and work products
  • Conduct electrical analysis and/or develop LRU electrical designs
  • Develop Product Definition Packages (PDPs)/Analysis Data Packages (ADPs) and take them through the full review and release process
  • Review engineering deliverables such as one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, part data sheets, interconnect connect diagrams, specifications, electrical analysis and trade studies
  • May perform research, trade studies, evaluation, and systems integration in electrical or electro-mechanical systems, cables, connectors, power systems, test equipment, and more
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively to understand system level interdependencies that impact electrical requirements and design constraints
  • Demonstrate leadership principles – Integrity, respect, organizational, communication etc.
Basic Qualifications

Principal Engineer Electrical:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience, or 2 years of experience with a Master’s degree, or 0 years of experience with a PhD

Sr. Principal Engineer Electrical

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of experience, or 7 years of experience with a Master’s degree, or 4 years of experience with a PhD
Common Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Knowledgeable with Siemens Teamcenter PLM or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable with CAD/ECAD tools for cable design (Siemens Capital)
  • Electrical engineering experience in electrical architecture and/or cable/harness design
  • Familiarity with industry/Military standards and codes (IEC, NEC, NFPA, IEC 60332, IEEE 299, UL, NEC 770, ISO 9001)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Ability to perform cable sizing, voltage drop, and ampacity calculations using analytic methods or software
  • Strong written and verbal communication for preparing technical reports, specifications, and presenting design concepts to stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in EMI/EMC design, shielding techniques, and thermal management for electronic systems
  • Experience with DoD acquisition processes, milestone reviews, and government contracting
  • Experience in maintaining and reporting status of program activities
  • Experience creating wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and BOM documents
  • Strong understanding of cable construction, materials, and performance characteristics
  • Experience with IPC/WHMA-A-620
  • Proficiency with Siemens Teamcenter PLM or equivalent
  • Proficiency with CAD/ECAD tools for cable design (Siemens Capital)
  • Experience managing design revisions, change orders, and interfacing with cross functional teams
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes, milestone reviews, and government contracting
  • Experience maintaining and reporting status of program activities

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a relocation assistance package.

Salary ranges: Primary Level $98,400.00 - $147,600.00; Secondary Level $122,800.00 - $147,600.00. The above salary range is a general guideline; actual offers depend on scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions.

Depending on the position, overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus may be available in addition to base pay.
