Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is $123,000 - $180,400.

Lilly is entering an exciting period of growth, and we are committed to delivering innovative medicines to patients around the world. Lilly research tech has a growing need for in-house manufacturing of material for clinical supplies and will therefore construct a new campus to manufacture Clinical Trial (CT) Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API). This new facility will meet the needs for an expanding portfolio (more and new areas), to accelerate development timelines, and to enhance supply chain robustness. The brand-new facility, also known as Lilly Medicine Foundry (LMF), will utilize the latest technology to augment the current clinical supply chain for small molecules (SM), oligonucleotides, peptides, and Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs), monoclonal antibodies, and bioconjugates, and add new capabilities including mRNA. This new site will be built using the latest high-tech equipment, sophisticated highly integrated and automated manufacturing systems, and have a focus on minimizing the impact to our environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

The Lilly Medicine Foundry (LMF) is embarking on an innovative journey to become fully digitally enabled from the start. To support this transformation, we need a visionary to define a robust data strategy and architecture that integrates IT and OT data, incorporates team member input, and uses modern technology. This role involves collaborating with team members at the site and within the larger research tech and manufacturing organizations to ensure the successful delivery of prioritized solutions for LMF at start-up.

The data and digital architect is responsible for delivering the architecture and setting up the teams and processes for its continued expansion, maintenance, and support. They are also responsible for delivery of the solutions using this data architecture that will enable the efficient running of this facility.

How You’ll Succeed:

  1. Be a strategic advocate within site leadership on digital strategy, ensuring technology is recognized as an enabler for site central initiatives.
  2. Provide input to Business Plan and site strategic exercises to drive progress on digital direction.
  3. Design and implement standard processes for data governance, security, and compliance, synchronizing with industry standards and regulations.
  4. Responsible for the development and implementation of data integration processes to ingest, clean, and transform data from various sources, ensuring data quality and accuracy.
  5. Develop an in-depth understanding of business processes on site, applying this knowledge to digital and data solutions that support and enhance these processes.
  6. Work with representatives across the site to analyze possibilities and implement solutions that improve business value.
  7. Critically evaluate user requests, using technical and process knowledge to figure out true underlying business needs.
  8. Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze trade-offs between usability and performance requirements.
  9. Provide leadership and expertise in the development and integration of IT solutions that support systems and business processes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  10. Develop or update project plans, including the determination of project activities and landmarks, providing oversight of multiple projects and communication status.
  11. Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in IT/OT industrial data architecture, continuously seeking openings to innovate and improve existing systems.

What you should bring:

  1. Extensive knowledge of Data Architecture and IT/OT integration patterns, including hands-on experience with technologies such as SQL, NoSQL databases, Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and ETL processes.
  2. Demonstrated experience in the design, development, and delivery of manufacturing/clinical development IT solutions (MES, LES, LIMS, SCADA, IoT platforms, Data Analytics, and AI/ML models).
  3. Proficiency in cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure) and data fabric technologies, with a focus on data ingestion, storage, processing, and real-time analytics.
  4. Expertise in data governance, security, and compliance frameworks, including GDPR, HIPAA, and other relevant regulations.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on process optimization and digital transformation in manufacturing environments.
  6. Extensive knowledge of development and scale-up manufacturing operations, ensuring that digital solutions align with business requirements.
  7. Ability to collaborate effectively with IT and business partners, providing guidance on problem resolution and digital/data solution design and implementation.
  8. Demonstrable experience in leading technology teams to define long-term data architecture, management strategies, and capability roadmaps.
  9. Knowledge of new trends in IT/OT industrial data architecture, such as edge computing, digital twins, advanced predictive maintenance, and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) integration.
  10. Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence others through sophisticated processes.

Basic Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of 3+ years of experience working with Data Architecture and Solutions in Life Sciences/Pharma (e.g. SQL, NoSQL technologies and platforms, Data Historian, AWS and Azure Data Fabric ingestion patterns and technologies, Power BI, SEEQ, Semantic Data Modeling, Data Governance, Generative AI models and toolsets).
  3. Minimum 3+ years experience leading or supporting the Computer System Validation of IT platforms including Data Integrity compliance.
  4. Minimum of 3+ years of experience on API manufacturing or Clinical development facilities.
  5. Minimum 3+ years of work experience in pharma or equivalent environment & have worked in several different roles.

Additional Information:

  1. Travel 10% to 15%
  2. This position will be on site 5 days a week.
  3. Potential to work after hours.
