This individual will direct and coordinate fabrication, installation, operation, application, maintenance, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical machines, equipment, tools, engines, and systems. They will ensure that quality levels and industry standards are maintained or improved in the manufacturing process. The role involves overseeing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems. The engineer will evaluate mechanical products for cost-effectiveness and efficiency, assess field installations, and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions. The IPT Lead for the Mechanical Engineering team will support the development of mechanical components and subsystems for Solid Rocket Motors, including the case, liner, nozzle, igniter, case, and system assembly and testing. They will evaluate designs for incremental improvement to meet requirements.

Major Position Responsibilities:

  1. Apply engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
  2. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  3. Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  4. Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements.
  5. Specify system components or direct modifications to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  6. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faults and recommend solutions to maintenance teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Associate's Degree
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Discipline/Major: Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
  • Experience: 10-12 years in relevant field
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication; ability to meet deadlines; interpersonal skills; problem-solving; analytical thinking; applied mechanics; design engineering; optimization; review; prototyping; requirements analysis; proficiency in CAD and CAE software; MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
