Job Overview

The Data and Devices Business Unit is looking for a Sr. R&D Product Development Engineer (PDE) to design and develop socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions used in switches, servers, and storage for data communication. Responsibilities include designing and documenting new products, from market definition through production and release. You will generate innovative ideas, develop them into practical models, determine specifications, perform analysis, create preliminary sketches and designs, and coordinate support operations such as fabrication, testing, and engineering samples. Interaction with customers, vendors, marketing, sales, and other engineering teams during pre-production is also key.

Short Description
  • Develop products such as socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions from concept to production:
    • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define VOC and translate it into design specifications.
    • Generate concepts and conduct feasibility studies.
    • Perform mechanical and thermal simulations.
    • Present evaluations and proposals to customers.
    • Create detailed designs, drawings, and perform DFMEA/tolerance analysis.
    • Build prototypes and validate designs.
    • Complete product qualification and finalize specifications.
    • Support operations with technical expertise for efficient and safe product launches.
    • Manage product changes and resolve related issues.
  • Develop a deep understanding of market needs and customer applications, fostering collaboration between business and engineering teams.
  • Maintain a system-level understanding of customer applications to provide effective solutions.
  • Follow LEANPD processes to ensure timely and within-budget product development, supporting milestone achievements.
  • Provide technical support across teams, including troubleshooting and verification.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to meet technical, quality, and cost goals.
  • Document designs and changes thoroughly, including drawings, change notices, and design history files.
Required Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering with electrical components or related fields.
  • Knowledge of socket, connector, or cable assembly design, including materials, tolerances, and qualification processes.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably Creo), with experience in modeling, drawings, and data management.
  • Understanding of GD&T and basic manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills in English, capable of working globally and across teams.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with data analysis and critical thinking.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Experience with switch or server equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, raw materials, and quality tools.
  • Excellent presentation and organizational skills.
