Overview
A nationally recognized electrical power and controls systems engineering firm is seeking an experienced Electrical Power Design Engineer to support its growing electrical power service offerings. This role is central to delivering high-quality, code-compliant power system designs for clients across multiple industries.
What you'll do
- Lead the development of electrical power load studies
- Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power construction packages sufficient to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check
- Lead the development of comprehensive electrical power specifications associated with construction packages
- Lead the development of electrical power bills of material and coordinate with vendors for procured equipment pricing
- Execute field verification walkdowns, including as-building existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure
- Execute factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment
- Execute start-up and commissioning, including electrical power and E&I troubleshooting as required
- Provide best possible after-hours support for internal/external clients as needed
- Work with Project Manager(s) to ensure overall quality of commercial deliverables, budget maintenance, and keep them informed of technical progress, issues, and need for change orders
- Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new project opportunities, providing technical expertise in applying cost to labor, expense, and procurement items
- Travel approximately 25%, with willingness to travel via air
Required qualifications
- 5 years' experience developing comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages suitable to be stamped by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check, including: load studies, single line diagrams, plot plan and area/building detail diagrams, lighting, grounding, conduit and cable schedules, construction specifications, and equipment and installation details
- Knowledgeable of National Electrical Code (NEC) and IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books) requirements
- Adept at the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam completion
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%, including by air
Preferred qualifications
- Additional experience with area classification drawings, motor/breaker schematics and wiring diagrams, and lightning protection drawings
- Knowledge of API 500 requirements
- Experience with power system modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower
- Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation using GE Multilin and SEL
