Job summary

Ayr Energy in Mountain View, CA is seeking a senior power electronics engineer to shape the architecture and delivery of high-performance converters and protection systems for grid and energy product applications. You will own hardware from specification to production, collaborating with mechanical, thermal, PCB layout, firmware, manufacturing and testing teams to validate Ayr products.

Qualifications

• Strong ability to reason from first principles in power electronics design.
• Deep understanding of power converter topologies and practical implementation.
• 5+ years in hardware design and industrialization of power converters.
• Experience selecting HV semiconductors (IGBTs, SiC/GaN MOSFETs and diodes).
• Ability to design gate drives and sensing circuits (analog/digital).
• Solid magnetics and capacitor knowledge for HV/high-frequency conversion.
• Basic control theory and embedded programming familiarity.
• Hands-on HV circuit bring-up and troubleshooting experience.
• Awareness of UL/CE safety and EMC considerations.
• Excellent written and verbal communications in English.

About the role

As a senior power electronics engineer, you’ll shape the architecture and delivery of high-performance converters and protection systems, driving innovation in efficiency, reliability, and manufacturability. What you’ll do

• Architect, design, build and industrialize power converter hardware for use in grid and energy product applications
• Architect and model new power electronics topologies that have superior performance
• Have start to finish ownership of hardware – from specification to design, prototype, reliability validation and production
• Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, thermal, PCB layout, firmware, manufacturing and testing teams to validate and manufacture Ayr products
• Define and execute validation test plans including structural, thermal, and environmental testing.

Qualifications

• First Principles Thinking
• Strong understanding of power converter topologies – both theory and practical design
• 5 or more years of relevant hands‑on hardware experience in design and industrialization of power converter products
• Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBTs, Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET’s, and diodes), design of gate drive and analog/digital sensing circuits
• Solid understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (film, ceramic and electrolytic) for high voltage and high frequency power conversion
• Knowledge of basic control theory and experience with embedded programming
• Extensive hands‑on experience with advanced digital and HV circuit bring‑up and troubleshooting
• Awareness of UL and CE electrical safety requirements; EMC requirements relevant to the design of power converters is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communications in English
