Job Description: Senior Power BI/Fabric Platform Engineer is responsible for transitioning existing Power BI semantic models, reports, and dataflows into the new Dev/Prod operating model. They will establish the technical foundation required for reliable Dev/Prod separation, controlled deployments, and scalable analytics operations. The role ensures that analytics assets are production-ready, governed, and aligned to best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing Power BI reports, datasets, and dataflows
- Refactor or adjust models to align with Dev/Prod standards
- Transition semantic models and reports into the Production environment
- Validate data accuracy and performance post-migration
- Ensure models are optimized for shared capacity usage
- Document dependencies, assumptions, and promotion criteria
- Partner with platform engineers to enable smooth deployments
Required Experience
- 7+ years of Power BI or analytics engineering experience
- Strong experience with Power BI semantic modeling and datasets
- Deep understanding of report and model dependencies
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale Power BI deployments
- Familiarity with governance and release management practices
Platform Setup and Governance Requirements
- Implement increased Power BI (Fabric) capacity
- Establish and document Dev and Prod environment separation
- Configure workspace strategies aligned to environment boundaries
- Enable controlled promotion of assets from Dev to Prod
- Implement governance controls for access, approvals, and auditing
- Align with Client Data & Analytics operating model
- Ensure minimal disruption to existing business reporting
Asset Transition and Delivery Requirements
- Inventory and assess existing Power BI assets
- Define migration waves and transition strategy
- Transition priority semantic models and reports into Production
- Validate performance, data quality, and user access post-migration
- Ensure Production assets are stable, documented, and supported
- Enable Power BI developers to work safely in Dev without impacting Prod
Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability
- Clear documentation for Dev/Prod operating procedures
- Reusable patterns for future Power BI development
- Knowledge transfer sessions for internal teams
- Recommendations for ongoing capacity management and optimization
