Job summary

Stand8 is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to own the internal developer platform (IDP) and lead the self-service workflows and Golden Paths relied on by engineering teams. This contract-to-hire role reports to the Head of Platform Engineering & AI and requires strong independent judgment.

You will steer infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, security, and cost management, while mentoring peers and applying FinOps practices to keep platform spend under control.

Qualifications

• Proficient Python programming with production automation.
• Deep cloud experience with AWS or Azure and containerized infrastructure.
• End-to-end CI/CD ownership including secure deployments.
• Infrastructure as code at scale using Terraform in production.
• Security-minded development and RBAC awareness.
• Experience applying FinOps/cost-management to cloud spend at scale.
• Track record of building metrics or reporting for leadership visibility.
• Treating platform users as customers and acting on their feedback.

Responsibilities

• Own the internal developer platform (IDP): design and evolve self-service workflows and Golden Paths used by engineers.

• Own CI/CD architecture and pipelines, including GitOps concepts and secure deployment methods.
• Drive observability strategy to ensure the platform is well-monitored, logged, and traced.
• Own performance reporting to show leadership month-to-month how the platform performs.
• Set security and access standards for secrets, RBAC, and access control across the platform.
• Own platform cost and efficiency, tracking spend and recommending optimizations.
• Guide other engineers with informal technical direction and reviews.

This contract-to-hire role reports to the Head of Platform Engineering & AI and provides senior-level ownership across the internal developer platform. The Senior Platform Engineer will lead infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security, cost management, and performance reporting. This role requires strong independent judgment and may provide informal technical direction to other engineers without formal management responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the internal developer platform (IDP): drive the design and evolution of the self-service workflows, the Golden Paths, that the rest of engineering relies on
• Lead infrastructure as code practice: set the standard for how the team provisions and manages infrastructure, and build the automation others follow
• Own CI/CD architecture: design and evolve the build, test, and deployment pipelines the platform depends on, including how GitOps practices get applied
• Drive observability strategy: make sure the platform is monitored, logged, and traced well enough that problems surface before anyone has to ask
• Own performance reporting: build and maintain the metrics and reporting layer that shows leadership and the rest of the organization how the platform is performing month to month
• Set the security and access standard: establish how secrets, access control, and role-based access control (RBAC) get handled across the platform
• Own platform cost and efficiency: track spend and bring cost-efficiency recommendations forward
• Guide other engineers: give informal technical direction and review to the rest of the team

Qualifications

Required

• Programming and automation: strong Python skills and a track record of building real automation and integrations at production scale
• Cloud and containers: deep experience with a major cloud provider (AWS or Azure) and containerized infrastructure running in production
• CI/CD and delivery practices: considerable experience owning pipelines end to end, including secure, modern deployment practices
• Infrastructure as code at scale: experience running IaC practices, such as Terraform, across a real production environment
• Security mindset: take security into everything you build and hold the rest of the team to the same standard
• Cost awareness: experience applying FinOps or similar cost‑management practices to cloud spend at scale
• Reporting and transparency: track record of building metrics or reporting capability that gives leadership and other teams real visibility into platform performance
• Working with developers: track record of treating the platform's users as customers and adjusting the platform based on their feedback

Preferred (Optional)

• Experience informally mentoring or guiding other engineers
• Experience with hybrid on-premises and cloud environments
• Experience with observability or log management platforms
• Exposure to cloud cost management or FinOps practices
• Certifications are a plus but not required. Hands-on experience is weighted more heavily.

Additional Details

The base range for this contract position is $80 - $90 / per hour, depending on experience. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
