Job summary

Advanced Energy is seeking a Senior PCB Designer in Fort Collins, CO to design and draft high-density PCB assemblies using ECAD tools. You will create schematics, layouts, and fabrication deliverables while coordinating with engineers and manufacturing to ensure quality and manufacturability.

The role requires 3+ years of PCB design experience, proficiency with Altium Designer, and strong knowledge of high-voltage, EMI/EMC, and thermal design principles.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of PCB design experience.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer and PCB design database management.
  • Experience designing high-voltage and high-power PCB assemblies including creepage, clearance, isolation, thermal management, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
  • Fundamental knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-2222, IPC-7351) and ASME/ANSI documentation standards.
  • Experience with high-voltage, mixed-signal, and power electronics PCB layouts.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, grounding strategies, and thermal design considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Place components and route traces to meet PCB, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and high-voltage isolation specs.
  • Create PCB designs in line with manufacturability and assembly requirements; collaborate with manufacturing for DFM improvements.
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication deliverables, and assembly documentation; maintain job status updates.
  • Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineers; respond to engineering changes.
  • Participate in PCB design process improvements within the team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior PCB Designer designs and drafts complex, high-density printed circuit board assemblies and serves as a technical resource to project teams through all phases of product development. This role uses ECAD software in preparing PCB designs, assemblies, schematics and technical documents. Ability to design preliminary schematics, redlines, part lists and basic descriptions of new designs, or modify existing high-density and complex printed circuit boards.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Place components and route tracks ensuring all functional and physical specifications meet PCB, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and high-voltage isolation design requirements.

  • Create PCB designs in accordance with manufacturability and assembly requirements and engage manufacturing teams to drive DFM improvements.

  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication deliverables, assembly documentation, and maintain job status updates.

  • Work with Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineers and react appropriately to engineering changes.

  • Participate in process improvement activities for the PCB design team.

QUALIFICATIONS :


  • Strong understanding of PCB design requirements related to high-voltage, high-current, and power conversion applications.

  • Working knowledge of creepage and clearance requirements, isolation techniques, and safety-driven PCB layout practices.

  • Ability to balance electrical performance, thermal requirements, manufacturability, and system reliability in complex PCB designs.


EXPERIENCE:


  • 3+ years of experience in PCB design.

  • Proficiency with Altium Designer and PCB design database management.

  • Experience designing high-voltage and high-power PCB assemblies including consideration of creepage, clearance, electrical isolation, thermal management, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.

  • Experience and knowledge of PCB design technologies, techniques, electrical schematics, PCB fabrication and assembly drawings.

  • Fundamental knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-2222, IPC-7351) and ASME/ANSI documentation standards.

  • Experience with high-voltage, mixed-signal, and power electronics PCB layouts.

  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, grounding strategies, and thermal design considerations.


EDUCATION:


  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field is preferred.


COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $65,000 to $95,000 per year.
