Job summary

Advanced Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to join our collaborative engineering team in Eden Prairie, MN. You will design, test, troubleshoot, and validate switch‑mode power supplies and related subsystems, contributing from concept through production.

This early‑career role offers hands‑on lab work, cross‑disciplinary teamwork, and the opportunity to grow technical expertise in power electronics while helping power the future.

Qualifications

  • Experience with basic circuit analysis and understanding of circuit schematics.

  • Experience working in a lab environment with standard electrical test/design equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Be a critical member of the product development engineering team.
  • Assist in the development, testing, and debugging of prototype power supply subsystems including AC/DC circuits, control systems, EMI filters, RF filters, logic circuits, etc.
  • Test products and subsystems using test equipment like oscilloscopes, power meters, LCR meters, signal generators, dynamic loads, network analyzers, etc.
  • Exercise engineering judgment to select and develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to secure project success.
  • Work in a team environment with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers on product development of extensive scope.
  • Utilize strong communication and team skills to effectively communicate thoughts and ideas within the design team.
  • Participate in the preparation of internal and external documentation including Requirements Specifications, Design Specifications and Test plans.
  • Responsible for broad technical knowledge of electronic components, and circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, including DC circuits, AC/DC converters, PF correction, semiconductors, loop stability, magnetic design, stress analysis, digital/analog, and safety compliance.
  • Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, root cause analysis, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing power supply products using formal investigation methods and corrective actions.
  • Participate in technical review, design analysis, development and selection of hardware.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you passionate about power electronics and excited by the opportunity to work on technology that enables innovation across industries? As an Electrical Engineer I at Advanced Energy, you'll be part of a collaborative engineering team developing industry-leading power conversion solutions used in mission-critical applications around the world.


In this role, you'll gain hands‑on experience designing, testing, troubleshooting, and validating switch‑mode power supplies and related subsystems while working alongside experienced engineers and technical experts. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to new product development from concept through production, expand your technical expertise in power electronics, and make a meaningful impact on products that help power the future.


This role is ideal for an early‑career engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working in a laboratory environment, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative products to market.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Be a critical member of the product development engineering team.

  • Assisting in the development, testing, and de‑bugging of prototype power supply subsystems including AC/DC circuits, control systems, EMI filters, RF filters, logic circuits, etc.

  • Test products and subsystems using test equipment like oscilloscopes, power meters, LCR meters, signal generators, dynamic loads, network analyzers, etc.

  • Exercise engineering judgment to select and develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to secure project success.

  • Work in a team environment with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers on product development of extensive scope.

  • Utilize strong communication and team skills to effectively communicate thoughts and ideas within the design team.

  • Participate in the preparation of internal and external documentation including, but not limited to: Requirements Specifications, Design Specifications and Test plans.

  • Responsible for broad technical knowledge of electronic components, and circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, including but not limited to DC circuits, AC to DC converters, power factor correction, high power semiconductors, digital and analog loop stability, magnetic design, worse case stress analysis, digital hardware, firmware, test and measurement systems, and electrical/safety regulatory compliance.

  • Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, root cause/failure analysis, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing power supply products using formal investigation methods and corrective actions.

  • Participate in technical review, design analysis, development and selection of hardware.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Environment: Works in a noisy fast‑paced power development lab and standard office environment


QUALIFICATIONS :


  • Ability to support testing and debug using common lab equipment such as Network Analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, function generators, JTAG or similar tools, etc

  • The ability to assist in analysis, prototyping, simulation, and validation of circuit designs.

  • Be a creative problem solver with a focus on quality, safety, cost, and delivery schedules.

  • Ability to solve technical problems independently with minimal assistance.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Basic programming or scripting skills such as LabVIEW, Python or MATLAB


EXPERIENCE:


  • Experience with basic circuit analysis and understanding of circuit schematics

  • Experience with power electronic concepts

  • Experience working in a lab environment with standard electrical test/design equipment


COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $65,000 to $90,000 per year.
