Make a Difference

The Sr. Patient Care Tech Student Extern works under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Performs direct and indirect patient care, including bathing, assisting with elimination, feeding, bed making, safety observation, blood glucose checks, vital signs, urinary catheter care, dressing changes, and phlebotomy. Indirect care includes documentation, reinforcing patient/family education, stocking supplies, and orienting patients and staff to the unit. Collaborates with team members to perform other duties as directed.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Accepted into an accredited Nursing School (provide acceptance letter upon hire)
  • Completed at least the first semester of Nursing School (provide official transcripts upon hire)
  • Experience with basic patient care needs such as bathing, feeding, vitals, activities of daily living, transportation, IV discontinuation, phlebotomy, blood glucose testing, catheter care, dressing changes, and restraints
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids is possible
  • Ability to use a computer for documentation and work-related purposes
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, nonverbal) and professionalism
  • Accountability and a positive, courteous attitude
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask
  • Self-directed, motivated, and responsible
  • Ability to handle situations with emotional control and professionalism

  • Available for one week of full-time training
