Amazon Robotics is seeking a Senior Packaging Designer to advance fiber-based packaging that right-sizes products, protects orders, and enables easy recycling. You will lead the design for fiber programs, collaborate with engineers and program teams to eliminate plastic packaging at scale, while lowering total costs and boosting sustainability.
The role combines hands-on CAD work with testing and cross-functional communication to implement scalable packaging solutions.
The Senior Packaging Designer is, above all, customer obsessed. That means giving our customers right-sized packaging without compromising order protection, and delighting them with an unboxing experience that is easy and sustainable to recycle at home. In practice, you will develop and scale fiber-based packaging designs that right-size to the product, protect the order flawlessly through the supply chain, give customers an experience that is easy to recycle, and deliver the lowest total cost at the highest level of sustainability.
Our mission has sharpened around eliminating plastic packaging at scale. You will lead the structural design for fiber-based programs within our portfolio, spanning automated paper bagging, paper-based consolidation wrap for multi-item orders, right-sized corrugated packaging, and curbside-recyclable mailers. The goal is simple to say and hard to do: get a durable, recyclable paper package onto the broadest possible range of products without adding cost, complexity so that it can be deployed at scale.
You will work hand in hand with program managers, automation and machinery development engineers, our customer experience teams, and fellow experts in fiber-based packaging. Co-located with materials scientists and machinery and automation designers, you are the packaging technical authority in the room, shaping the material and format so the machine and the package are designed together rather than in sequence. As part of the Amazon Robotics Packaging team, you make optimized packaging a core tenet of every future investment in automation, not an afterthought once the equipment is built.
No two days look quite the same, but a typical one blends design work, data review, and a lot of time with the people who turn your designs into reality. You might start at the bench or in CAD, refining a bag or mailer geometry so it right-sizes to a tricky product without adding material. Mid-morning you dig into the latest testing data, reading how recent samples performed and drawing conclusions about where to focus your time and energy next, then sit with an automation engineer to adjust the format so it runs cleanly on the machine rather than fighting it. After lunch you are on a call with a supplier to pressure-test whether a new structural modification can be produced at quality and at the volumes we need, and you capture the decision and its rationale so the reasoning is there for whoever picks it up next. You close the day reviewing customer feedback from a recent pilot, where the question is always the same: did we protect the order, right-size it, and make it easy to recycle at home? When the answer is not yet yes, that becomes tomorrow's design problem.
We are the packaging design and engineering group inside Amazon Robotics. Our charter is to eliminate plastic packaging at scale and replace it with fiber-based designs that are right-sized to the product, protect the order all the way to the customer's door, and are easy to recycle at home. We sit shoulder to shoulder with materials scientists, automation engineers, and program teams, which means our packaging and the machines that make it are designed together rather than in sequence. It is hands-on, fast-moving work with real customer impact, and we care as much about getting the details right as we do about the big bets.
