Job description

Sr. Operations Engineer, Strategic Programs and Engineering

Job ID: 10536788 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is solving some of the biggest last-mile delivery challenges in the industry — and our team is where new ideas get tested before the network bets on them. Our portfolio ranges from new packaging and sortation models to IOT hardware, island logistics, and pharmacy co-location.

If you want to design things that don't exist yet — sometimes from the ground up, sometimes by rethinking what's already there — and you want your work to directly shape what Amazon's delivery network looks like in the years ahead, keep reading.

We're looking for a Sr. Operations Engineer who combines strong program management with technical skills. You'll partner with senior engineers and program leads while owning your deliverables end-to-end. You'll be challenged, you'll learn, you'll work on high-visibility projects that leadership watches closely, and you'll grow.

Key job responsibilities

Serve as the subject matter expert for your program area, providing technical guidance to cross-functional partners and challenging vendor and internal assumptions. Partner with safety, routing, fulfillment center operations, delivery service partners, finance, and station leadership to move programs from approval through launch. Go on-site during pilot launches to validate designs, troubleshoot, and refine processes in real time. Own the roadmap for your area, including prioritization, milestone tracking, and senior leadership reporting. Up to 50% regional travel depending on business needs and pilot launch cadence.

Design and validate new delivery station processes, layouts, and equipment configurations for pilot programs — translating concepts into buildable, testable solutions. Create technical documentation including process flows, SOPs, training materials, and engineering standards for programs that don't have established playbooks. Build structured pilot plans from concept through assessment, launch, and scale recommendation — including timelines, readiness criteria, and go/no-go gates. Own program delivery end-to-end: driving change management approvals, financial justification, and leadership reviews at each stage of progression

A day in the life

No two days look the same. You might start the morning sketching a station layout for a new pilot, then jump on a call with routing and science teams to understand how delivery path changes affect your design. After lunch, you're reviewing time study data to validate throughput assumptions and writing up findings for a leadership review. Some weeks you're at your desk refining specs and building workback plans. Other weeks you're on-site at a station, troubleshooting in real time and training associates on a process you designed. The work spans concept through execution — and moves fast.

About the team

Our mission is to prove whether new delivery solutions work before Amazon's last-mile network commits to scaling them. The problems we solve directly affect millions of customers receiving packages every day: how packages move through stations, how new equipment reduces loss, and how delivery speed improves. You'll work alongside a small team of engineers who each own different programs. You'll collaborate with station operations, routing and science teams, safety, equipment suppliers, and finance. We work in uncharted territory — our programs don't always have playbooks, and you may be writing the first one.
