Job summary

Innova in Concord, NC is seeking a Quality and Supplier Management Engineer to lead quality improvement initiatives across development, installation and operation of our proactive quality management system for raw materials, in-process and finished products.

You will establish control plans, PFMEAs, and supplier PPAPs, drive APQP, support audits, and champion continuous improvement to reduce costs and improve processes.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required; minimum 5 years quality engineering in automotive ISO/IATF.
  • Experience with PFMEA, APQP, PPAP; familiarity with 8-D problem solving.
  • Ability to establish control plans and PFMEAs with engineering team.
  • Strong communication and cross-cultural collaboration.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Six Sigma Green Belt.

Responsibilities

Quality and Supplier Management Engineer (Automotive Industry)

Location: Concord, NC (On-site)

Work Time: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

This position reports directly to the Quality Manager.

Summary

Reporting to the QC Manager, the Quality Control Engineer will have overall responsibility to implement systems and lead quality improvement teams to enhance the support of the development, installation and operation of a pro-active quality management system to support defined standards as it relates to the control of raw material, in-process and finished products. The QSM Engineer will be expected to perform other assignments as directed to support the business needs.

Functions & Essential Duties
Quality Engineering

Establish and maintain/review control plans and PFMEAs with Engineering team Develop gage and tooling strategies and the ongoing evaluation and analysis of tooling to define changes that will improve the tooling program Analyze capability studies and assist in pilot tool builds Assist in simultaneous engineering reviews and PFMEA's for new tools or tooling changes As assigned, champion PPAP submissions and participate in APQP process including support analysis, testing and inspection of prototypes Will be responsible for dedicated product line quality systems and problem solving, to include 8-D resolution and implementation Conduct EASE Audits Analyze customer complaints, returns and champion or facilitate customer 8-D responses as required

Supplier Quality

Champion Supplier PPAP submissions and participate in the APQP process with OEMS and other customers, including analysis, testing, and inspection of prototypes Review and approve supplier and customer PPAP documentation. Work directly with suppliers and customers on quality issues to ensure timely and effective resolution. Prepare audit packages and audit corrective action packages. Conduct supplier surveillance audits, create audit reports, determine corrective actions, and verify closure. Support customer audits, questionnaires, and queries. Maintain priorities and scheduling for sorting and lab completion. Support QC Manager during third-party audit preparation. Create receiving inspection instructions and monitor performance.

Administrative

Oversee gauging operating including preventive maintenance requirements, verification, print approval gauging audit criteria and gage R&R specifications Review tool and gage use during build stage for routing of and possible interaction with hydraulic and lube line placement Implement and maintain a cost-effective gauging program As required, train inspectors and operators in quality related process improvements; GR&R, GD&T and measurement techniques

Continuous Improvement

Focus on promoting improvement activities and further driving cost reduction. Member of the Quality Improvement team, including conducting QC Patrols. Develop and implement systems to support and continually develop a pro-active quality program. Develop and implement visual management strategies Schedule and conduct quality improvement teams to address areas of improvement and the elimination of non-value added processes in manufacturing as it relates to quality Review gage process changes that should be considered; review part and process flow

Education & Required Experience

4 year degree (engineering degree preferred)

(relative experience may be considered in lieu of education)

Minimum 5 years of (quality) engineering experience preferably in automotive ISO/IATF hands-on experience. CQE designation preferred

Computer literacy (word, excel, power point, outlook, SPC) Must have the ability to read, write and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication to accomplish responsibilities and tasks Effective and proven written and oral communication skills Proven multi-task and organizational skills Strong GD&T experience & knowledge Six Sigma (green belt) experience preferred (certification a plus)

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand possibly for up to 6 hours while on manufacturing floor Ability to produce computer generated work Ability to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted Ability to travel to customer site, at time with short notice Ability to make vital decisions regarding specifications and product quality
