Overview

The Senior Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional mortgage services to members while actively expanding the credit union’s reach within the broader community. This role serves as a trusted advisor to members throughout the mortgage process from initial consultation and application to closing, ensuring a seamless and supportive experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Member Experience & Mortgage Expertise
    • Provide personalized guidance and consultation to potential homebuyers helping them navigate their home ownership journey with confidence.
    • Maintain a monthly residential loan production average of $1,000,000 with a 90-day ramp-up period for new hires to build a pipeline.
    • Ensure accurate and complete loan applications, including data entry into LOS and AUS systems and collaborate with processors, closers, and underwriters to gather necessary documentation.
Business Development & Compliance
  • Cultivate strong relationships with local real estate agents, builders, and wealth advisors to generate referrals and expand the credit union’s visibility.
  • Represent the credit union at community events, business meetings and networking opportunities.
  • Host quarterly informational sessions for members and monthly updates for branch staff to promote awareness of mortgage products, rates, and procedures.
  • Stay informed on market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive offerings to maintain a high level of industry knowledge.
  • Participate in required annual training, including BSA and Privacy Act compliance.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) proficiency is highly desirable to better serve our diverse membership.
Organizational Engagement
  • Represent the credit union with professionalism and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all interactions and responsibilities.
  • Partner with leadership to support the credit union’s goal of being a top employer.
  • Take initiative to perform other essential functions as needed to support the team.
  • Travel, on occasion, may be required, including travel within the local area and to the Corporate Headquarters in Dunedin, FL for sales meetings.
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends to meet member and business demands.
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 3+ years’ experience as loan officer with knowledge of conventional Fannie Mae/ Freddie Mac, FHA & VA underwriting guidelines.
  • 3+ years’ sales experience including ability to generate new business.
  • 3+ years’ mortgage software systems, DU, and LP automated underwriting systems.

Certifications

  • National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) required.
