Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Sr. Platform Engineer to lead the MES and manufacturing platform portfolio across North American sites.
You will design, develop, and support manufacturing technology applications and interface with Quality, Manufacturing, and IT partners. In this role you will own end-to-end platform solutions, influence design standards, and mentor citizen developers while ensuring high availability and scalability.

This role is pivotal to the success of the MES and manufacturing platform portfolio across all North American sites. You will be a critical member of the IT team delivering manufacturing platform solutions that empower shop floor teams to operate with confidence and focus on quality production. This team has earned a trusted seat alongside shop floor operations, guiding best-practice use of technology through collective experience and influence.
As a Sr. Platform Engineer, you will design, develop, and support manufacturing technology applications across our North American manufacturing facilities. This role is hands‑on across the full platform stack, with a primary focus on our MES platform, while also advising and influencing best‑practice design standards for our internal team and citizen developers throughout the business. You will interface, communicate, and drive execution with internal business partners including Quality and Manufacturing stakeholders, and IT teams. Experience with shop floor operations will only enhance your ability to provide solutions that are simple for operations and widely adopted.
Identify and recommend solutions to address improvement opportunities across manufacturing platforms, with a primary focus on MES
Design and deliver scalable and reliable platform solutions that empower shop floor teams to operate with confidence and focus on quality production
Develop and communicate architectural strategies needed to support existing and new manufacturing platforms
Drive best‑in‑class platform standards by influencing technology stack decisions across the full manufacturing platform portfolio
Investigate and apply AI agents and automation to reduce development cycles and accelerate delivery
Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of platform services across North American manufacturing sites
Stay current on the latest IT advancements and emerging technologies in manufacturing and provide recommendations in support of Milwaukee Tool’s strategic goals
Provide technical consulting on platforms and guidance to end users, citizen developers, and stakeholders
Produce documentation including process maps, data architecture maps, integration requirements, and protocols/data specifications as needed
Build IT credibility by modeling professionalism, excellence, integrity, and passion
Monitor and manage technical deliverables for projects, contributing to project plan scope and ensuring timely completion
Build relationships with business and IT partners
Support the development of change management strategies and related documentation
Partner with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering organizations to develop solutions through effective understanding of business and process requirements
Contribute to the creation of big‑picture, multi‑year platform and OT data strategies
Serve as a subject matter expert for MES, smart factory, and connected operations across North American manufacturing sites
Collaborate within the IT team and contribute to technical decisions that shape the manufacturing platform ecosystem

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
Minimum 8 years’ experience in an Information Technology field relevant to manufacturing operations, with significant focus on manufacturing platform development and support
Demonstrated proficiency building integrations between manufacturing platforms and related systems, including API development and data connectivity
Working knowledge of machine connectivity platforms and connection methods (OPC, MQTT, Modbus, etc.)
Proficient analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential platform issues
Working knowledge of manufacturing operations, processes, and shop floor environments
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to summarize and communicate effectively across functional and global audiences, and translate technical concepts for non‑technical stakeholders
Excellent documentation skills for creating clear and comprehensive technical documentation
Strong ability to work with cross‑functional teams on complex technical deliverables
Adaptability and eagerness to learn new tools, technologies, and methodologies as the platform landscape evolves
Troubleshooting and debugging expertise across platform services and integrations
Working knowledge of networking principles and security best practices relevant to manufacturing IT/OT environments
Strong business engagement skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with manufacturing stakeholders
Experience developing in the Tulip platform
Working knowledge of industrial data connectivity platforms such as Kepware or MQTT
Working knowledge of DataOps platforms such as Litmus
Experience with agile development methodologies
Demonstrated proficiency establishing integrations between Oracle ERP and associated manufacturing systems
