Job Summary

Memorial Hermann NE seeks a Sr Medical Technologist to join our team. Strong experience in Micro/UA essential.

Schedule is days to include rotating weekends and holidays.

Position is responsible for evaluating, performing, and overseeing various laboratory tests/procedures as assigned. Assists in development of new or revised procedures. Serves as the person in-charge of the department in the absence of the Lab Director, Medical Laboratory Specialist, or Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science required (equivalency required for foreign education); incumbents hired into this job prior to 7/1/2019 are not required to have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP or ASCP-International), Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP).
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years of pertinent experience in a high complexity laboratory in the assigned/specified area; completion of Senior Medical Technologist skills competency within one year of accepting this position.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs and documents test results, quality control, maintenance procedures according to technical policy/procedure; troubleshoots instruments as needed.
  • Oversees and evaluates the performance of testing, quality control, maintenance, and procedures for assigned area. Prepares monthly quality summary reports documenting the performance of instruments, quality control, linearity, service visits, and clinical service issues. Coordinates service visits.
  • Evaluates and maintains technical procedures as appropriate to the department/facility; in area assigned, meets/exceeds competency requirements for all workstations; writes procedures; exhibits working knowledge of laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards from agencies including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA. Participates in CAP mock inspections and off-site system inspections.
  • Teaches, assesses competency, mentors, and/or precepts other laboratory employees and students in technical procedures, quality control, maintenance, performance improvement, production efficiency, and customer service.
  • Provides input into training, performance appraisals, and annual competency assessments for Medical Technologists. Coaches and supports counseling and recognition processes.
  • Demonstrates leadership to promote quality patient care, safety, cost efficiency, and continuous improvement. Participates in the interview process for new hires.
  • Supports team cohesion; communicates effectively with staff, management, and hospital personnel; provides feedback; reports issues and solutions.
  • Interacts with hospital staff, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and results, adhering to policies and demonstrating sensitivity to customer needs.
  • Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to policies, procedures, and standards within budget and resource constraints.
  • Supports professional growth through continuing education and skills development; acts as a preceptor, mentor, and resource.
  • Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
