Job description

The Sr. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) at Glaukos plays a vital role within Global Medical Affairs, working as part of a field-based team of scientific experts. The role involves engaging in compliant scientific discussions with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) regarding disease states, practice education, and product education.

  1. The Sr. MSL is expected to develop new relationships with customers across assigned geographies.
  2. The role includes supporting the hiring and coaching of future MSLs, as well as developing innovative processes, infrastructure, and capabilities to serve customers effectively.
  3. A solid understanding of the roles and responsibilities of US Medical Science Liaisons and knowledge of eye diseases are required.
  4. The incumbent must maintain thorough and current knowledge of disease states, study methodologies, clinical data, and diagnostics.
  5. Executing approved medical platforms, strategies, and MSL initiatives is essential.
  6. The Sr. MSL serves as a technical/scientific resource to cross-functional partners.
  7. Teaching, coaching, mentoring new or less experienced MSLs, and managing special projects are key responsibilities.
  8. Expertise in diagnostics and strategic planning is necessary.
  9. Understanding patient diagnostics, recommendations, guidelines, and approvals is required.
  10. The role involves guiding and motivating team members without direct reporting lines.

Key Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To:

  1. Identifying and managing relationships with KOLs, including optometrists and ophthalmologists.
  2. Communicating relevant medical and scientific information effectively.
  3. Providing actionable insights to enhance the value and appropriate use of Glaukos’ products.
  4. Establishing KOL engagements and attending scientific sessions at various conferences.
  5. Supporting the development of clinical evidence studies.
  6. Maintaining expertise in disease management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape.
  7. Liaising with local and regional optometric and ophthalmic societies.
  8. Providing comprehensive practice education to optometric and ophthalmic centers.
  9. Managing territory budgets, metrics, KOL mapping, and CRM entries.
  10. Supporting cross-functional collaboration across clinical operations, market access, sales, and marketing.
  11. Qualifications include a Doctorate degree (OD, PharmD, PhD, MD, DO), with 8 years of experience in eyecare/ophthalmology and experience as an MSL in eye care.
  12. The candidate must be proficient in systems and processes including Microsoft Office and CRM software, and be self-motivated.
  13. The role requires professional problem-solving skills, insight development, goal setting, networking, and the ability to work remotely within a territory.
  14. This position reports to the Vice President, Global Medical Affairs, with travel requirements up to 70% for conferences and field visits.
