Job summary

HKS, Inc. is seeking a senior Architect focused on healthcare facilities in Dallas. You will lead conceptual design in collaboration with the design team and translate clinical programs into effective space planning and workflows.

You will coordinate multiple teams, work with administrators and clinicians, and ensure compliance with codes and accreditation standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum 10+ years of healthcare design and planning experience.
  • Architectural registration strongly preferred; licensure sought.
  • ACHA/EDAC accreditation and sustainable design knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and plans conceptual design of healthcare projects with the design team.
  • Develops client programmatic requirements into design solutions.
  • Leads planning by generating concepts and layouts of internal departments.
  • Coordinates work of multiple planning teams on large projects.
  • Schedules and facilitates user group meetings with stakeholders.
  • Advises client on meeting cadence, duration and involvement.
  • Gathers action items from user group meetings and tracks follow-ups.
  • Develops medical planning concepts and design solutions per program.
  • Applies regulatory codes and hospital standards to project work.
  • Prepares implementation documents and communicates concepts to teams.
  • Leads project team interactions from concept to design execution.
  • Prepares and presents for client meetings; documents minutes.

Responsibilities
  • Creates and plans the conceptual design of healthcare projects in coordination with the design team
  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of a client's programmatic requirements, standards and policies for incorporation into the design solution
  • Leads the planning process by generating concepts and layout of internal departments, including assisting the users in clinical workflow
  • Works closely with administrators, doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to reach consensus on departmental layout
  • Coordinates the work effort of multiple planning teams on large projects
  • Works closely with the client to schedule and develop agendas for user group meetings
  • Advises the client on meeting cadence, duration and required stakeholder involvement
  • Gathers open items and develops action items from user group meetings
  • Develops, modifies and/or reviews medical planning concepts and design solutions and may develop client program
  • Applies governing regulatory codes and hospital licensing standards, and validates that those requirements for assigned segment of project are met
  • Prepares and modifies implementation documents and communicates planning concepts for project team members, both verbally and through graphic and written reports
  • Leads project team interaction internally and externally to effectively understand and implement design solutions and project plans from conceptual design to design execution
  • Prepares and presents for client meetings
  • Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes and other appropriate documents for client and consultant coordination meetings
  • Travel will be required
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture or related field
  • Typically 10+ years of experience with a healthcare design and planning experience background
Licenses and Certifications
  • Architectural Registration strongly preferred
  • ACHA accreditation and/or EDAC accreditation preferred
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Advanced – expert-level experience, knowledge or skills

Intermediate – experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or work

Basic – familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and may produce elementary functions depending on role

  • Intermediate skills in Bluebeam required
  • Basic skills in Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper and Dynamo required; intermediate preferred
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office Suite required
  • Basic skills in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign required
  • Intermediate knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines required
  • Advanced knowledge of current healthcare planning and programming concepts including patient safety and evidence-based design principles required
  • Advanced knowledge of guidelines for design and construction of healthcare facilities required
  • Advanced knowledge of materials, construction techniques, building codes architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines and QA/QC process required
  • Advanced ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents required
  • Advanced presentation, graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas required
  • Advanced experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy required
  • Advanced organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time required
  • Advanced ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships required
  • Advanced ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing required
  • Advanced ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions required
  • Advanced ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment required
  • Advanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality required
