Job summary

HKS, Inc. seeks a senior architectural leader to guide healthcare design and planning, overseeing conceptual design, client coordination and multi-team collaboration on large hospital projects.

The role emphasizes regulatory knowledge, accreditation expectations, and advanced design tools to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered environments.

Qualifications

• Accredited professional degree in Architecture or related field.
• Typically 10+ years of healthcare design and planning experience.
• Architectural Registration strongly preferred.
• ACHA accreditation and/or EDAC accreditation preferred.
• Sustainable design accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Creates and plans the conceptual design of healthcare projects in coordination with the design team.
• Develops a comprehensive understanding of a client's programmatic requirements, standards and policies for incorporation into the design solution.
• Leads the planning process by generating concepts and layout of internal departments, including assisting the users in clinical workflow.
• Works closely with administrators, doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to reach consensus on departmental layout.
• Coordinates the work effort of multiple planning teams on large projects.
• Works closely with the client to schedule and develop agendas for user group meetings.
• Advises the client on meeting cadence, duration and required stakeholder involvement.
• Gathers open items and develops action items from user group meetings.
• Develops, modifies and/or reviews medical planning concepts and design solutions and may develop client program.
• Applies governing regulatory codes and hospital licensing standards, and validates that those requirements for assigned segment of project are met.
• Prepares and modifies implementation documents and communicates planning concepts for project team members, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
• Leads project team interaction internally and externally to effectively understand and implement design solutions and project plans from conceptual design to design execution.
• Prepares and presents for client meetings.
• Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes and other appropriate documents for client and consultant coordination meetings.
• Travel will be required.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• Accredited professional degree in Architecture or related field
• Typically 10+ years of experience with a healthcare design and planning experience background

Licenses and Certifications

• Architectural Registration strongly preferred
• ACHA accreditation and/or EDAC accreditation preferred
• Sustainable design accreditation preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advanced - expert-level experience, knowledge or skills

Intermediate - experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or work

Basic - familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and may perform elementary functions depending on role

• Intermediate skills in Bluebeam required
• Basic skills in Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper and Dynamo required; intermediate preferred
• Intermediate skills in MS Office Suite required
• Basic skills in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign required
• Intermediate knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines required
• Advanced knowledge of current healthcare planning and programming concepts including patient safety and evidence-based design principles required
• Advanced knowledge of guidelines for design and construction of healthcare facilities required
• Advanced knowledge of materials, construction techniques, building codes architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines and QA/QC process required
• Advanced ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents required
• Advanced presentation, graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas required
• Advanced experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy required
• Advanced organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time required
• Advanced ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships required
• Advanced ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing required
• Advanced ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions required
• Advanced ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment required
• Advanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality required
