Job description

Sr Mechanical Engineer (SRM Analyst Thermal Focus)

Location: Huntsville, AL (remote option available). Job ID: 2026-36402. Full‑time. Category: Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer‑generated reports.
  • Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend repairs to maintenance personnel.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components.
  • Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators.
  • Validate models with test data; develop predictive ablation and erosion models.
  • Define sub‑scale tests for characterizing material properties of insulators and ablators.
  • Evaluate and recommend ablative materials and thermal protection system solutions for solid rocket motors.
  • Create reports and presentations documenting analysis and supporting work.
  • Present to peers and customers in design reviews.

Required Qualifications
  • Education and experience: Associate's Degree and 5‑7 years of experience.
  • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required.
  • Computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Education and experience: Bachelor's Degree.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Regular movement throughout the facility.
  • May stand for long periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a climate‑controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Work may require exposure to changing climate and/or operating machinery.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel may be required to company facilities and customer sites as needed for project work.
Pay Range (USD)

$100,300 - $135,700

The salary range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum for salary for this position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, internal equity, and relevant education or training.
