Job summary

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to develop innovative hardware for robotic systems and optimize performance. You will help design, prototype, validate, and test components, integrating with operations and suppliers to ensure successful product launches.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in mechanical engineering, hands-on prototyping experience, and a strong background in SolidWorks, FEA, and full lifecycle delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience communicating technical concepts with visuals.
  • Experience defining system architectures and evaluating tradeoffs.
  • Experience building prototypes and advancing design thinking.
  • SolidWorks CAD experience with part design and assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and lifecycle delivery.
  • Experience with full lifecycle and meeting milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Execute product designs from concept to production including spec, design, prototyping, validation and testing.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality and vendors for a smooth launch and sustainment.
  • Write requirements, functional specs, design verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Demonstrate thorough engineering analysis and cradle-to-grave ownership.
  • Design holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, vendors and integrators to deliver automation solutions.
  • Create design of experiments and lead cross-functional automation of experiments.

Job Overview – As an Amazon Robotics Senior Mechanical Engineer you will develop innovative hardware designs for our emerging robotic systems and improve existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate is has experience designing and analyzing robotic systems, enjoys analytical problem solving and possesses practical knowledge of robotic design, fabrication, assembly and rapid prototyping.

Key job responsibilities
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
  • Working with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch and sustaining
  • Writing requirements, functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
  • Exhibit role model behaviors of thorough engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership
  • Design and adaptation of holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 8+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience communicating technical concepts and processes using clear, simple language and visuals
  • Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
  • Experience building prototypes to advance design thinking and the final product experience
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD experience, understanding of best practices for part design, advanced assemblies and complex configuration management
  • Thorough understanding of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering and ability to apply them to product design
  • Experience with full lifecycle and proficiency at completing tasks to meet milestones
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in the design and development of robot end effectors for robotic applications
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
  • Experience in a highly agile environment
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Proficiency documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5
  • Experience with electronics packaging including PCBA mechanical design, incorporation of sensors and plastic PCBA enclosures
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO’s
  • Experience with DFX (designing for excellence)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
