Job summary

Advanced Energy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design cost-effective power supplies per customer specs, including thermal and acoustic design, water-cooled components, and 3D layout testing.

You will work with hardware, firmware, and program managers on product development, participate in design reviews, analyze test data, and drive successful project outcomes through cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Windows-based platforms and CAD/CAE tools experience required or preferred.
  • Solidworks, Pro-E, FloThermXT, FloEFD, ANSYS or Solidworks Simulation experience preferred.
  • Analytical tools including databases, spreadsheets and word processing are used daily.
  • Demonstrates urgency, ownership and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn professional engineering concepts and use CAE tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop power supplies per specs including thermal design and testing.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware and program management on product development.
  • Participate in design reviews to improve mechanical and thermal designs.
  • Analyze test data to verify design meets specs and performance.
  • Interface with internal departments to meet cost and schedule goals.
  • Diagnose issues and implement corrective actions for existing products.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, water cooled coldplates, etc.) including thermal/acoustic/vibration design and simulation, 3D board layout and prototype testing.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, water cooled coldplates, etc.) including thermal design and simulation, 3D board Layout and prototype testing
  • Work in a team environment with hardware engineers, electrical engineers, firmware engineers, and program managers on product development of extensive scope
  • Utilize strong communication and team skills. Persuading and gaining agreement with cross functional teams (hardware) and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of an organization
  • Participate in design reviews to improve mechanical and thermal design
  • Exercise engineering judgment to select and develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to secure project success
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Interface with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
  • Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, root cause/failure analysis, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing power supply products using formal investigation methods and to recommend/implement corrective actions to address
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Environment: Works in a noisy fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment
  • Occasional travel domestically and internationally as required
QUALIFICATIONS
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools. Experience with Solidworks, Pro-E, FloThermXT Or FloEFD, ANSYS and/or Solidworks Simulation a plus. The individual should also have working knowledge of Database, Spreadsheet, and Word Processing software
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ownership resulting in responsiveness to work requests and customer deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; consistent demonstrated ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision
  • Ability to follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be obtained
  • Ability to learn and use professional concepts appropriate to engineering, including analytical methods, computer aided analysis and design tools, diagnostic instruments and test equipment, lab skills appropriate to design, selecting appropriate components and materials for designs
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design of power electronics or similar
  • Proven track record of product development from concept through to production
  • Previous experience designing for Safety, Compliance, and thermal management
  • Proven professional skills as an experienced engineer with full understanding of best engineering practices and policies/procedures
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems independently and within a team
  • Ability to manage multiple project requirements
  • Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's (BSME) degree from four-year college or university
COMPENSATION

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $100,000 to $135,000 per year.
