Job summary

Johnson Service Group in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a Mechanical Designer on a long-term contract to support power generation island designs for data-center clients.

You will develop piping designs from P&IDs and GA drawings, prepare MTOs, and produce construction-ready documents while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams. Assoc degree and 7+ years' experience required; AutoCAD/Plant 3D proficiency a must.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
• Minimum 7 years of mechanical design experience in industrial or power generation environments.
• Experience with P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping specifications, material take-offs, and piping isometrics.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Plant 3D, as well as Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
• Develop piping designs from P&IDs, GA drawings, equipment layouts, and piping specs.
• Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and support procurement activities.
• Perform field design work to verify existing conditions and coordinate with client personnel.
• Assist in developing construction packages including installation drawings and bill of materials.
• Support site activities during construction and startup phases.
• Identify scope changes and design updates; coordinate with other disciplines to ensure design integration.
