Job summary

Tecan in Morgan Hill, CA is seeking a Materials Planner to join the customer-facing Supply Chain team. You will manage self-directed planning, resolve shortages, expedite materials, and sometimes execute purchase orders to close gaps.

The role requires 5-7 years in materials planning, advanced Excel, ERP/MRP experience, and strong communication with customers and internal teams. Onsite, full-time with a competitive salary range of $100k-$120k.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze material requirements and kit demand for the upcoming 12-26 weeks.
  • Plan and commit kits based on material availability for assigned customers.
  • Identify material gaps that may prevent achievement of targeted kit drop dates.
  • Develop mitigation plans and elevate material issues that may jeopardize production or revenue.
  • Manage the purchase of customer-provided parts and materials as required.
  • Partner with Program Managers to ensure alignment between Tecan and customer requirements.
  • Provide customers with weekly excess material approval requests.
  • Follow the established workflow to obtain customer approvals and close excess material issues within the required timeframe.
  • Prepare and analyze the monthly Excess Resolution Report using Spotlight, including zero-demand and excess inventory with demand.
  • Validate material data, identify changes or discrepancies, and provide recommendations as needed.
  • Coordinate sales order entry for approved excess inventory sales.
  • Coordinate shipment of excess materials to customers.
  • Work with customers to coordinate purchase order changes resulting from final quantity variances.
  • Monitor buyer pull-in actions to ensure identified material gaps are resolved.
  • Run What-If analyses to support customer pull-in and push-out requests.
  • Perform material impact analysis and disposition activities associated with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Conduct quarterly Bill of Materials (BOM) profile analyses to identify sole-sourced components, long-lead-time materials, risk buys, and potential obsolescence as part of the Material Mitigation Program.

As a Materials Planner, you will be an integral part of our customer-facing Supply Chain team, ensuring the materials needed for production are available when required. You will manage self-directed planning activities, resolve material shortages and gaps, expedite materials when necessary, and occasionally execute purchase orders to close supply gaps.

Your Background

  • The experience, education, and technical qualifications required for the role.
  • 5-7 years of experience in materials planning, supply chain, or a related field.
  • Experience with direct material purchasing or procurement.
  • Advanced Excel skills for reporting, data analysis, and scenario modeling.
  • Experience in a customer-facing supply chain role.
  • Experience with BOM analysis, shortage management, excess inventory resolution, and material risk mitigation.
  • Experience performing material impact analysis related to Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Intermediate-level Excel skills for reporting and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field.
  • APICS or NAPM certification.
  • Experience with Manex and Spotlight software.
