Job description

The Senior Materials Compliance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the materials compliance of components, assemblies, and finished products across multiple business units within Fulfillment Technologies and Robotics (FTR). This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in global environmental regulations including RoHS, REACH, POP, PFAS, and other substance restrictions, providing technical guidance to design engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

This position will lead compliance assessments for Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Manufacturing Change Orders (MCOs), manage supplier engagement for materials declarations, and drive process improvements that scale compliance operations across an expanding customer base. The Sr. Materials Compliance Engineer will evaluate component-level materials data against evolving regulatory requirements, identify compliance risks, and develop mitigation strategies to ensure uninterrupted product deployment across global markets.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of substance management and regulatory frameworks with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, automate compliance workflows, and develop scalable solutions. This role partners closely with hardware design engineers and other cross functional teams to integrate materials compliance requirements early in the design process, reducing downstream risk and supporting Amazon Robotics' best-in-class compliance program.

Key job responsibilities
  • Ensure all components and materials in product designs meet applicable regulatory requirements including RoHS, REACH, EU POPs, PFAS restrictions, and other global substance regulations.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, procurement, and legal teams to assess materials, resolve compliance challenges, and support product development initiatives.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential materials compliance risks across the product portfolio and develop scalable mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation, testing results, and regulatory certifications; prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and agencies.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance materials compliance processes, tools, and standards; drive initiatives to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Review and analyze BOMs prior to release; provide guidance to Engineers on change orders, required attachments, and materials callouts on drawings.
  • Evaluate Certificates of Compliance, material declarations, and lab reports to determine regulatory compliance status for components and assemblies.
  • Define and manage compliance verification strategies for new and modified components, ensuring regulatory status is confirmed through supplier documentation, material declarations, analytical data, etc.
  • Track status of engineering change requests and approvals; follow up with stakeholders to maintain workflow velocity and meet SLA targets.
