Job description

Senior Compliance Engineer, AWS Product Compliance Engineering

Job ID: 10504808 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Senior Compliance Engineer — Environmental to drive global product compliance for hazardous substances (including PFAS/REACH), energy efficiency, and emerging chemical regulations across all AWS markets, including hardware supporting AI/ML infrastructure. This role sits within the Global Trade and Product Compliance (GTPC) organization and partners cross-functionally with Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Legal, Public Policy, and Sustainability to ensure AWS infrastructure meets regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle — from early design through production and end-of-life.

Primary Duties
  • Implement AWS's material and product compliance strategy, roadmap, and specification in the area of hazardous substances to meet business objectives such as new product launch, new material qualification, new site launch, new technology development, and onboarding new ODMs
  • Work closely with product compliance TPMs and hardware design teams throughout the product life cycle in order to obtain required product environmental regulatory compliance documentation by: specifying regulatory and technical standards requirements; conducting specification/design reviews; managing pre-testing of hardware platforms developed by the design team; and supporting the team through product execution.
  • Drive regulatory advocacy priority through in-depth product and impact assessment to enable effective engagement with EU and global trade associations (e.g., DigitalEurope, SEMI, ITI) to influence emerging chemical restrictions, secure derogations, and advance Amazon's positions in public consultations and technical working groups
  • Create procedures and guidelines to mitigate compliance issues early in the design phase, and ensure that devices meet governmental and industry regulations in international markets.
  • Deliver compliance risk assessment, design-for-compliance specification, design review, and certifications/declarations during product development to ensure new hardware design meeting technical compliance requirement in the global market.
  • Engage closely with hardware and supplier teams on product development to determine the impact of the proposed regulatory changes on HW design, performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Coordinate cross-functional governance — partner with Legal (R2MC), Public Policy, Hardware Engineering, Sustainability, and Supply Chain to align on compliance strategy, escalation paths, and program milestones through structured review cadences.
  • Own program-level deliverables end-to-end; mentor junior engineers; and influence cross-organizational decisions on compliance trade-offs without direct authority.
  • Leverage AI/ML tools and automation to scale compliance operations — including automated substance screening, predictive regulatory risk analytics, and intelligent data extraction from supplier documentation to accelerate material disclosure workflows.

This position reports to the Compliance Engineering Manager within GTPC. Location: Seattle, WA, with options for Sunnyvale, CA or Arlington, VA.
