Job summary

Kiefer Sage in Rogers, AR is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to strengthen production assembly line operations across business units.

You will design tooling and fixturing, drive cost-down initiatives, and collaborate with quality and engineering to deliver safe, efficient manufacturing solutions. The ideal candidate brings a BS in engineering, 7+ years of experience, and a proven track record in tooling design and process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience designing tooling and fixturing for assembly and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support production assembly line improvements and troubleshooting across BUs.
  • Optimize assembly line processes for throughput, efficiency, and ergonomics.
  • Design tooling and fixturing to support assembly and manufacturing processes.
  • Drive and support cost-down activities across manufacturing operations.
  • Evaluate and approve alternate vendor sources for components and materials.

Summary/Objective

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving production assembly line operations, tooling, and manufacturing processes across the organization's business units (BUs). This role designs tooling and fixturing, drives cost-down initiatives, optimizes assembly line performance, and supports vendor sourcing and quality efforts. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer collaborates cross-functionally with production, quality, and engineering teams to deliver safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective manufacturing solutions. Strong analytical skills, working knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, and proven experience in production support and process improvement are essential for success in this position.

Essential Functions
  • Support production assembly line improvements and troubleshooting across BUs
  • Optimize assembly line processes for throughput, efficiency, and ergonomics
  • Design tooling and fixturing to support assembly and manufacturing processes
  • Drive and support cost-down activities across manufacturing operations
  • Evaluate and approve alternate vendor sources for components and materials
  • Collaborate with Quality on vendor quality, incoming inspection, assembly/manufacturing quality, and out-going quality
  • Responsible for providing engineering support for the design, development, production, and quality inspections of new and current products
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation is well documented and up to date within PDM
  • Ensure engineering procedures and standards are followed
  • Drive project success through on-time delivery and efficient collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Identify opportunities for procedural enhancements and implement technical tools to streamline processes and drive operational efficiency
  • Operates independently with limited guidance from managers and/or senior engineers
  • Successfully partners with teammates, suppliers, and customers domestically and globally as appropriate
  • Uses data to support and communicate technical decisions
  • Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software (i.e., SolidWorks) to create tooling and fixtures
  • Produces manufacturing/tooling specifications and chooses raw materials and components for production
  • Drives cost analysis and optimization efforts to create accurate BOM and ensure that targets are met
  • Provides technical guidance and support to BU Owners and Production Managers

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility but could in the future.

This role routinely uses standard office and shop equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets, and requires regular time spent on the production floor.

Physical Demands

This role combines office work with time spent on the production floor; lifting, bending, stooping, and standing is necessary. Mental alertness and long periods of concentration are required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travel, evening, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Experience supporting production assembly lines, including line improvements, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Experience designing tooling and fixturing for assembly and manufacturing processes
  • Experience driving cost-down activities and cost analysis efforts
  • Experience evaluating and approving alternate vendor sources
  • Experience collaborating with Quality on vendor quality, incoming inspection, assembly/manufacturing quality, and out-going quality
  • Experience with industry-specific systems (e.g., motorized carts, spray systems, etc.)
  • Background in mechanical/manufacturing test standards
  • Proficient with mechanical design and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical mobility systems, spray systems, and mechanical components and assemblies for vehicles
  • Knowledge of material manufacturing processes such as laser cut sheet metal, sheet metal bending, metal tube bending/cutting, plastic bending/machining, metal stamping, CNC, PEM inserting, welding, powder coating, and thermoforming to name a few
  • Knowledge of GD&T and drawing best practices
  • Knowledge of 8D and root cause analysis
  • Experience in supporting production including tooling design, improving processes, incoming component test requirements, on the line test requirements, and out-going product test requirements
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and risk assessment for manufacturing systems
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Master's degree a plus
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Proven track record supporting and improving production assembly lines across multiple business units
  • Strong experience designing tooling and fixturing for assembly and manufacturing processes
  • Proven track record driving cost-down activities and cost analysis efforts
  • Strong experience evaluating and approving alternate vendor sources
  • Strong experience collaborating with Quality on vendor quality, incoming inspection, assembly/manufacturing quality, and out-going quality
  • Strong experience with industry-specific systems (e.g., motorized carts, spray systems, etc.)
  • Strong background in mechanical/manufacturing test standards
