SUMMARY/SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Sr. Manager of Supplier Quality and Tooling will report to the Group Director of Quality within the Supply Chain function and will support the LMR (Land Mobile Radio) and Video Access and Security businesses.

Job Description

This individual is a "change agent" and will partner with internal executive stakeholders and suppliers to develop and execute best practices across the supply base. The Sr. Manager of Supplier Quality and Tooling also determines and assesses supplier risk profiles using leading and lagging indicators to resolve key supplier and commodity issues, build on global quality standards and processes, provide training on key competencies, and other project management activities. Additionally, the Senior Manager of Supplier Quality and Tooling builds, inspires, empowers, and guides the supplier quality and tooling teams to deliver best-in-class solutions to Motorola Solutions customers.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  1. Collaborate and partner with key stakeholders to ensure supplier quality is meeting expectations and objectives
  2. Develop and implement strategic plans for the supplier quality organization
  3. Qualify processes and quality systems during new part development, change of supplier, etc.
  4. Champion early supplier engagement, supplier quality, and capacity improvements
  5. Ensure supplier quality partners with sourcing, commodity management, and engineering to participate in the supplier selection process and make recommendations for approved/preferred suppliers
  6. Ensure regular process audits are performed at suppliers to validate supplier quality systems are in place and capable of delivering defect-free material
  7. Implement APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) with key suppliers
  8. Manage supply part approval during the evolution process through PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
  9. Implement supplier PFMEAs (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), quality assurance plans, and controls
  10. Drive data-driven RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) on supplier-caused quality issues
  11. Set analysis expectations with suppliers for reported issues and review KPIs regularly
  12. Develop material and process robustness plans based on critical parts
  13. Develop and implement supplier tooling KPIs
  14. Collaborate with engineering and suppliers to ensure on-time development and start-up of new molds/tools and parts manufacturing processes
  15. Champion design for manufacturing meetings and ensure optimization of tooling proposed by suppliers
  16. Ensure the tooling team actively participates in FOT (First of Tool) activities at suppliers to approve tooling and address issues in real-time
  17. Analyze design, development, and manufacturability of new injection molded, die-cast, sheet metals, and elastomer parts
  18. Lead part design reviews to identify feasible features and mitigate tooling-related design issues
  19. Partner with commodity managers to develop tooling strategies and cost savings goals
  20. Ensure tooling teams drive RCCA for tooling-related issues
  21. Participate in sourcing decisions for tooling suppliers
  22. Develop and execute tooling plans, including buy-off with suppliers
  23. Perform technical capability audits for new tooling suppliers
  24. Review and qualify new, transfer, and second-source tooling, including buy-off processes
  25. Lead, mentor, and develop supplier quality and tooling teams

Preferred Qualified Skills:

  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (Black Belt preferred)
  • Solid knowledge of quality systems and KPIs
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including 8D methodology
  • Strong knowledge of PPAP, APQP, DOE, FMEA, SPC, and Gage R&R
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Target Base Salary Range: $120,300 - $240,600
