About the role:

The Becton Dickinson Software Technology Solutions Division (STS) seeks a technical Sr. Engineering Manager focused on building and maintaining a software platform to enable our product teams to innovate and our BD customers to engage in a single BD experience.

This position requires an enthusiastic leader with a mix of intelligence, integrity, and technical skill that allows you to focus on building a team through mentoring, coaching, hiring, and solving complicated technical problems.

This collaborative position will partner with and advise multiple teams by understanding the needs of product teams.

Responsibilities:

1. Build, lead, and manage a team of high performing software engineers to design, build, and scale software platform services, ensuring it meets business needs and technical requirements.
2. Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and modern software development practices.
3. Identify, attract, and develop a team of talented software engineers.
4. Apply API-first design principles to build modular, reusable, and well-documented services.
5. Champion Domain-Driven Design (DDD) in the architecture and implementation of services, ensuring strong domain models and boundary context.
6. Leverage serverless architecture (e.g., AWS Lambda, Fargate) for cost-effective, scalable services that minimize infrastructure overhead.
7. Ensure best practices in software engineering, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and monitoring to maintain high-quality releases.
8. Collaborate closely with product management, architecture, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless delivery of features.
9. Monitor and optimize AWS resource usage to ensure a cost-effective platform.
10. Work in a collaborative environment to ensure a shared understanding of complex topics.
11. Contribute to and lead process improvement initiatives across the entire department.

Experience Required:

1. 10+ years of software development experience, with at least 4+ years in a leadership or management role.
2. Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
3. Proven, hands-on experience with running production workloads in AWS cloud services in production including serverless computing (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, etc.).
4. Expertise in programming languages (Go, Java, .Net).
5. Deep understanding of API-first development and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
6. Familiarity with microservices architectures and event streaming technologies (e.g., Kinesis, Kafka).
7. Experience with CI/CD practices, shift-left automated testing, and monitoring for cloud-native applications.
8. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on delivering scalable, maintainable, and high-performing solutions.
