Job description

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an experienced Sr. Manager, Raw Materials Sourcing to be responsible for developing sourcing strategies, execute on sourcing initiatives, and handling sourcing activities in the Americas in their specific category.

The Sr. Sourcing Manager will have responsibility for a subset of raw materials which could more broadly include acids, solvents, and electronic materials. Chemical commodities could include phosphoric acid, acetonitrile, Ethylene Glycol, N-Methyl Pyrrolidone, Triethanolamine, and specialty chemicals such as Sulfolane, and MBTZ.

This is a full-time, remote position (EST / CST time zones preferred).

What we're looking for

  • Education: BS/BA Degree required; Degree in chemical engineering, engineering, or a related field preferred; MBA preferred

  • Experience: Minimum of (7) years of total related experience required.

  • Minimum of (3) years M&A experience on strategy development

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related procurement, operational, or commercial experience in the chemical or pharmaceutical industries

  • Experience with matrixed global project responsibility preferred

  • SAP experience preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred (yellow, green, or black belt)

  • Strategic mindset and ability to execute hands-on, good at presentation skills

  • Can-do mindset, creative, solution not problem focused, action focused, tough

  • Ability and track record of managing complex sourcing/procurement projects

  • Proactive spend control, spend analysis and strategy execution skills

  • Fact and analysis-based decision-maker

  • Proven contracting and contract management skills

  • High level of interpersonal relationship management skills

  • Highly organized, well structured, self-managed, clear priority management skill set

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Develop and present sourcing strategies to reduce raw material category cost and supply risk Accountable for roughly $75-100M spend

  • Leverages market intelligence and analyses to identify opportunities and risks, including but not limited to spend analysis, commodity pricing forecasts, contract coverage analysis, etc.

  • Collaborates with product management, commercial and operations teams that direct sourcing supports to ensure alignment on sourcing strategies, and that relevant market intelligence is shared Develops and maintains a rolling 36 month sourcing strategy and project roadmap, identifying savings estimates, estimated timing of savings, and execution plans Drives execution of category sourcing strategies (e.g., RFI/RFQ, supplier qualification, auction rounds, negotiation), coordinating with Technical Managers, Quality, Product Managers, and others as required.

  • Maintains relationships with key vendors, and helps address vendor-related issues (e.g., pricing issues, performance issues, etc.) Monitor's categories spend to ensure sourcing savings are captured and do not erode over time Conducts regular project execution reviews with the Senior Director, Direct Sourcing, the VP, Strategic Sourcing and Manufacturing and the respective business/functional leaders Responds to raw material category sourcing requests in a timely and efficient manner

  • Negotiates contracts in line with corporate guidelines Supports the budget process by providing expectations for direct material price inflation or deflation Commercial responsibility for a subset of raw materials which could more broadly include acids, solvents, and electronic materials. Chemical commodities could include phosphoric acid, acetonitrile, Ethylene Glycol, N-Methyl Pyrrolidone, Triethanolamine, and specialty chemicals such as Sulfolane, and MBTZ to name a few.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$121,700.00 - $202,800.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
