Position Overview

The Sr Manager, Global Trade Compliance, leads embecta’s global trade compliance team, providing legal guidance on export/import regulations and sanctions. They serve as embecta’s Trade Compliance Global Process Owner, developing and maintaining the trade compliance program, partnering with legal teams to mitigate risks, overseeing compliance activities such as restricted party screening and anti-boycott reporting, and implementing employee training programs. This role can be remote from the United States or Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Serve as embecta’s Trade Compliance GPO (Global Process Owner).
  2. Lead the global compliance team.
  3. Oversee compliance activities, including restricted party screening and anti-boycott reporting.
  4. Partner with legal teams to develop standards and mitigate global trade risks.
  5. Implement employee training programs on trade compliance.
  6. Set strategic direction and implement auditing & monitoring compliance programs.
  7. Collaborate with regions and business units to ensure compliance with export trade laws.
  8. Support Global Broker strategy and RFQ.
  9. Manage customs brokerage partners, including KPIs, metrics, and quarterly reviews.
  10. Ensure accuracy in documentation and regulatory compliance.
  11. Assist in developing, forecasting, and managing trade-related costs and transactions.
  12. Implement SAP modules and integrations for optimal trade operations.

This role reports to the Director, Global Logistics & Trade COE and involves regular interaction with operational and executive teams.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 7-10 years in global trade compliance, including 5-7 years in leadership roles.
  • Experience interpreting and applying international trade laws and regulations.
  • Proven success managing complex trade compliance projects and programs.
  • Experience developing risk management frameworks.
  • Strong operational knowledge within supply chain functions.
  • Cross-functional collaboration experience with legal, logistics, supply chain, and quality teams.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of global trade compliance regulations, including export controls, sanctions, and customs.
  • Risk Management: Guidance on EAR, OFAC sanctions, export controls, and trade controls; monitoring tariff changes and risks.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex regulations and assess impacts.
  • Communication Skills: Effective in conveying compliance requirements and collaborating with stakeholders.
  • Leadership & Management: Proven leadership in managing and mentoring compliance teams; developing training programs.
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Addressing customs and trade compliance issues; working across regions and departments.
  • Brokerage & Financial Skills: Developing global brokerage strategies, managing budgets, and RFQ processes.
  • Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with trade management software, automation, and data analytics tools.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field required.
  • Customs Broker certification or related training preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 25-30% as needed.
