Job summary

Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. seeks a Sr. Manager – GCE Manufacturing Controls Engineering, onsite in Valley City, OH. You will lead controls and robotics engineers, drive productivity projects, and mentor teams across regional sites.

You will oversee robotics, PLC/HMI systems, and automation efforts with Lean principles, while partnering with suppliers to optimize safety, uptime and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering engineering projects, preferably with experience in Protrak project management.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess complex engineering processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and develop engineering teams.
  • Proficient in project management tools and software, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Microsoft Office, Power BI
  • Strong understanding of general LEAN principals, manufacturing principles, DFM, and DFA
  • Strong expertise in robotics, industrial automation, and manufacturing control systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming/troubleshooting, HMI interfaces, sensors, servo drives, and robotic manufacturing applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical problem-solving for complex automated equipment and controls-based production systems.
  • Willingness to travel within the region as required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, Develop and Grow a team consisting of controls and robotics engineers to maximize productivity.
  • Support Strategy/Footprint team for product equipment transfers.
  • Implement and oversee the execution of productivity projects within the region, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of productivity projects, identifying any issues or delays and developing solutions to address them.
  • Develop and execute training programs to upskill plant engineering staff, ensuring they are equipped with the latest manufacturing engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings across regional manufacturing operations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging and supporting GCE teams in their development and the optimization of manufacturing processes.
  • Build and maintain close relationships with Mfg. sites, critical business support functions in region and critical strategic external automation partners/suppliers.
  • Initial line of support for production down/emergency Mfg. equipment and/or process down undefined
  • Provide technical leadership for robotics, industrial automation, and control systems across Global manufacturing sites.
  • Support troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement of robotic cells, PLC-controlled equipment, HMI systems, sensors, drives, and integrated automation systems.
  • Partner with plant teams and suppliers to implement and standardize robotics and controls solutions that improve safety, uptime, and productivity.

The Salary range for this position is $110,600.00 - $178,000.00
