Job description

Description Basic Purpose:

The Sr. Engineering & Maintenance Manager has department-level responsibilities for the plant engineering and maintenance group. This individual sets the vision for the maintenance organization by leading world-class programs in capital planning, preventative maintenance, machine reliability, parts inventory management, and continuous improvement. The successful manager will partner with internal and external experts to build safety, quality, and reliability into our processes to drive out defects and waste. Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety, quality, cost, and GMP standards in a high-speed manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reliability
    • Builds processes and metrics that empower the Maintenance organization to improve plant uptime
    • Utilize data to identify the root cause of machine failures and puts corrective actions in place to reduce mean time between failures
  • Preventative Maintenance
    • Continuously improves the PM program to drive machine reliability
    • Works with internal and external machine experts to ensure equipment meets or exceeds expected life
  • Parts Management
    • Facilitates parts inventory tracking to ensure facility caries the correct parts to minimize business risk, while balancing cost
    • Partners with key vendors on managed inventory programs
  • Plant & Facility Maintenance
    • Oversees the maintenance of plant utility systems and components for electricity, water, steam, gas, compressed air, warehouse coolers, air conditioning, heating, and ventilation.
    • Maintains property records, surveys, equipment history records, manuals, warranties, and maintenance/engineering resource materials.
  • Capital Planning
    • Drives the plant investment strategy by ensuring that capital projects have strong returns for the business
    • Manages internal & external project owners to ensure that projects deliver on time, on budget, and delivers on committed benefits
  • Maintenance & Engineering Leadership
    • Builds capabilities within the maintenance and engineering group by providing regular coaching and guidance for employees in their organization
    • Holds regular strategic meetings with plant leadership to ensure alignment on strategic goals
    • Drives root cause analysis for machinery downtime to prevent recurrence of breakdowns
  • Engineering Support
    • Maintains current drawings, schematics, and files for plant/facility structures, systems, and equipment
    • Maintains a master plan for future improvements/expansion of the plant.
    • Prepares accurate and timely reports, statistics, drawings, and recommendations as required.
    • Interfaces with staff managers, outside contractors, and engineers related to facility upkeep, renovations, or construction.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum ten years of experience in a Plant Engineering/Maintenance role or related capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in one or more relevant Engineering field(s), or equivalent knowledge with emphasis on mechanical, electrical, industrial, and civil engineering disciplines.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees Maintenance Supervisor, Engineers, and other employees within the department

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of federal safety regulations and electrical codes.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, government regulations, and general business periodicals.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Familiar with basic computer concepts and operations; proficient on Microsoft Office Suites, Maintenance CMMS software, and CAD/drafting software
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow, handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand all safety requirements
  • Ability to perform any necessary physical labor.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Expert in a wide variety of manufacturing machinery/equipment systems, including PLC controllers, variable frequency drives, DC controllers, servos, instrumentation, sensors, photo electrics, form/fill/seal machines, code dating equipment, volumetric filling, statistical scale filling, motorized conveyors, labeling machines, box closers, pumps and controllers, label applicators, metal detectors, all types of power transmission components, and all types of motors and electrical control devices.
  • Expert in a wide variety of facility support systems, including plumbing, electrical, steam generation, compressors, and plant air system design.
  • Expert in the use of testing and measuring instruments for both electrical and mechanical applications, all types of welding and cutting equipment, shop machinery and power tools, drafting tools, CAD software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning electrical and mechanical systems and provide accurately diagnostic evaluations.
  • Familiarity with lubrication theory, lubricants, and proper application of such.
  • Understanding of basic principles of the SQF program and other food safety policies/procedures
Compensation and Benefits:
  • $110,000 -$155,000 (commensuratewith experience and location)
