Job summary

SB Energy is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to provide SME-level electrical design (LV, MV, HV), final engineering, and permitting for data center projects. You will lead and develop a team of engineers, driving consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across programs.

Based in the U.S. with options for Redwood City, Denver, San Diego, or remote work, the role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree preferred.
• Experience in electrical power systems including distribution and backup power.
• Proven ability to lead projects and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage Electrical Engineering design standards for quality, presentation, and cost-effectiveness.
• Perform project design reviews at milestones and coordinate internal approvals.
• Provide technical guidance on electrical systems design including power distribution and controls.
• Review and support RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and submittals.
• Provide technical review and guidance on equipment selection and vendor lists.
• Support Operations & Maintenance with technical knowledge and troubleshooting.
• Design and manage datacenter white space, rack layout, containment, network infra, power, and cabling.
• Collaborate with coloproviders and internal stakeholders to deliver design criteria and Basis of Design.
• Participate in developing facilities requirements documentation.
• Research and evaluate new designs, materials, and construction methods.
• Participate in project coordination meetings and communicate updates to scheduling.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers.

Basic Function

As a part of the Engineering team, the Sr. Electrical Engineer will provide subject matterexpertiseon Electrical Engineering design (LV, MV, and HV), final engineering, and construction permitting of data center projects. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that all electrical designs areoptimizedfor efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry standards.

Inaddition to technical responsibilities, this individual will lead and develop a team of engineers , driving consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across projects.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage Electrical Engineering design standards to set requirements for quality, presentation standards, and cost-effectiveness
• Perform project design reviews at specific milestones throughout the final design process and coordinating other internal reviews and approvals by key stakeholders, as needed
• Providetechnical guidance on electrical systems design, including power distribution, backup power, grounding, and controls
• Review and support RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and submittals

• Provide technical review and guidance on equipment selection and approved vendor list
• Support O&M team with technical knowledge and troubleshooting
• Design and manage the datacenterwhite space, including rack layout, hot/cold containment, network infrastructure, branch circuit distribution, power requirements, cable pathways, and projected build phases.
• Collaborate withcoloproviders and internal stakeholders to deliver project design criteria and develop Basis of Design.
• Participate in the development of data center facilitiesrequirementsdocumentation.
• Research and evaluatenew designs, materials, and construction methods for data center electrical and mechanical equipment and related components.
• Participate in project coordination meetings and clearly communicate necessary or recommended updates to project scheduling.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’sdegree in Electrical Engineering(ABET-accredited preferred); PE license a plus
• 8-12+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably within data centers, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial/commercial projects
• Strong understanding of electrical power systems, including distribution, backup power, and critical infrastructure
• Experience reviewing designs, coordinating with external partners, and supporting construction or project delivery
• Proven ability to lead projects and mentor or manage engineers in a team environment
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC)
• Experience with design tools (e.g., AutoCAD or similar) and interpreting construction documents
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Base Pay

$160,000-$190,000

The pay range mentioned above is a guideline. We tailor each offer based on your unique skills, experience, location, and market benchmarks—while ensuring internal parity across our teams. In addition to competitive base pay, total compensation may include a discretionary annual bonus and a market leading comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.
