Job Overview

As part of the global Operations & Technology organization, the Data & Analytics team (D&A) focuses on future data and analytics strategies. We support NBCU’s extensive portfolio, including broadcast, cable, news, sports, film studios, theme parks, and digital properties.

The Sr Manager of Data Engineering will lead technical projects, manage budgets, and transform internal engineering teams into efficient, scalable units. The role requires proactive impediment removal, clear communication, and relevant reporting at all levels. Join us to create the extraordinary!

Responsibilities
  1. Design and build Data Engineering initiatives with a proactive mindset.
  2. Manage and mentor data engineers and managers, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  3. Oversee budgets, vendors, resources, and delivery of large programs to improve operational efficiencies.
  4. Develop relationships with stakeholders to define requirements for data lakes, warehouses, reports, and data products.
  5. Ensure technical projects are well-understood, documented, and tracked with full visibility on budgets, timelines, and risks.
  6. Utilize JIRA for planning, vetting, and tracking work according to best practices.
  7. Support product and development teams in achieving their goals aligned with roadmaps.
  8. Lead development teams in self-organization, time, and workload management.
  9. Define project roadmaps, meet milestones, communicate risks, and maintain data quality.
  10. Prioritize projects, delegate responsibilities, and ensure accountability.
  11. Use prototyping to propose and design innovative business solutions.
  12. Collaborate with IT teams to integrate new analytics/data tools.
  13. Participate in data governance initiatives, promoting documentation, standards, and quality.
  14. Organize metadata resources like data lineage, mappings, dictionaries, and training materials.
  15. Coordinate production releases with project teams and ensure effective communication.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related field with a strong technical background.
  • 8+ years in solution development for data engineering products.
  • Experience in data warehousing, with at least 6 years in full lifecycle implementation and support.
  • Proficiency in SQL or similar platforms supporting daily operations.
  • Proven success in a business-facing data engineering role.
  • 6+ years in system design using various tools and technologies.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, AWS, Snowflake, BigQuery, S3, Glue, Athena, Airflow, etc.
  • Knowledge of Data Modeling, Data Architecture, Data Quality, ETL, and Data Warehouse methodologies.
  • Ability to architect large-scale data solutions for rapid processing of massive datasets.
  • Experience leading multiple teams, preferably in data engineering.
Desired Characteristics
  • 6+ years managing workflow, Agile, or ITSM systems.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Action-oriented with a positive attitude and ethical standards.
  • Understanding of Agile principles and managing ambiguity.
  • Results-driven with strategic alignment capabilities.
  • Ability to work across multiple business units and cultures.
  • Excellent personal time management skills.
  • Solution-focused and able to perform under pressure.
Additional Requirements
  • This position is fully remote, contributing from a non-NBCUniversal worksite.
