Job summary

Steak n Shake, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a Sr Manager Cost Accounting to lead the corporate accounting function focused on food cost, cost of sales, and margin analysis.

You will supervise staff, partner with Supply Chain and Finance, and present findings to executives on food cost changes, pricing, and menu mix. You will drive inventory and variances, help implement new inventory software, ensure SOX controls, and coordinate external audits.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in finance or accounting.

Responsibilities

• Own inventory accounting and related cost of sales.
• Coach stores and leaders on food control and inventory counts.
• Perform cost of sales analysis store-by-store and consolidated.

Job Title: Sr Manager Cost Accounting

Function

Understand the corporate mission and vision statements and within that framework provide a critical leadership role within the corporate accounting department. The role also provides critical support to Supply Chain and Finance Departments. Core Duties include 1) food cost reviews and cost of sales analysis by store and in the aggregate, 2) profit margin analysis on food costs, and 3) lead accounting participant at cross functional brand meetings. There are significant changes that have occurred and will continue to occur in Steak n Shake’s supply chain and menu offering so very important that individual can easily adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for inventory accounting and related cost of sales.
2. Coach the stores and above store leaders on proper food control and inventory count procedures,
3. Perform cost of sales analysis as a percentage of net sales store by store and on a consolidated basis.
4. Collaborate with Finance and Supply Chain Departments at analyzing food cost margins on a routine basis.
5. Prepare and Present to Executives food cost margin caused from product changes, inflationary changes, changes in menu pricing, packaging, product mix, etc.
6. Participate in cross functional brand meetings to discuss menu products, packaging and supplies.
7. Keey inventory systems up to date for recipe changes, menu offering changes, product changes, etc.
8. Lead change to new software solution for inventory, food cost, variance to theoretical reporting, etc.
9. Calculate calories for menu requirements and complete government reporting to the Census Bureau.
10. Key contact to the external auditors in their work related to quarterly reviews and annual audits.
11. Responsible for ensuring internal controls for their responsible areas are properly designed and executed to ensure operating effectiveness for compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
12. Assist Principal Accounting Officer and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) members with requests or projects as needed.
13. Supervise support staff and work closely with the Controller and Sr Manager of Financial Reporting as it relates to the financial statement close processes and other team projects.
14. Identify improvement opportunities across the Organization’s functions, determine alternative courses of actions with those function leaders and implement process improvements. Continuous goal to reduce “waste” in processes and identify cost savings.
