Your role

The Privacy Corporate Counsel will help ensure DLR’s compliance with global data protection laws and regulations by supporting the Company’s data protection program, and advising the Compliance and Privacy Teams. This role safeguards the organization’s reputation and mitigates financial, operational, and legal risks by supporting robust policies, procedures, and oversight aligned with global regulatory requirements.

Your role

The Privacy Corporate Counsel will help ensure DLR’s compliance with global data protection laws and regulations by supporting the Company’s data protection program, and advising the Compliance and Privacy Teams. This role safeguards the organization’s reputation and mitigates financial, operational, and legal risks by supporting robust policies, procedures, and oversight aligned with global regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Do
Global, Cross-Organizational Advising
  • Support and advise on the Company’s global data protection program consistent with relevant laws and regulations, including on best practices, mitigation of privacy risk, and compliance with U.S. and global data protection laws, legal and regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, consent forms, and related issues.
  • Review and advise on privacy considerations related to systems and data processing activities, as well as emerging products and technologies while partnering with cross-functional, global teams to ensure the design of new products, features, and business initiatives incorporate privacy and data security compliance.
Contract Negotiations
  • Provide legal support for the strategic reviewing, drafting, and negotiating of privacy and data security terms in contracts with business partners and vendors, including data processing agreements, intra-company data transfer agreements, and standard contractual clauses (SCCs), and other data protection terms in agreements.
  • Prepare Transfer Impact Assessments.
Support Investigations
  • Provide legal support on investigations involving reports of inappropriate or unauthorized access, loss or disclosure of personal data, including advising on potential liability, identifying legal obligations, and supporting incident response efforts.
  • Support development of enterprise-wide best practices for incident response readiness and advising on all aspects of incident response, whether privacy and/or cybersecurity related.
  • Experience with data loss prevention and cybersecurity events, including forensic investigations, breach notifications, and cybersecurity preparedness.
General
  • Manage outside counsel effectively and efficiently.
  • Support the continuous improvement of standard forms and the development and improvement of policies and procedures for the Legal Department. Execute assigned projects as determined by the needs of the Legal Department.
What You’ll Need
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience counseling on global data protection and privacy laws.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from a recognized law school.
  • Competencies in organization, communication, analysis, flexibility, process improvement, and project management.
  • Experience at a law firm with global offices and as in-house counsel is highly preferred.
  • Experience with GDPR and CCPA compliance is highly preferred.
  • Privacy certifications such as CIPP-US, CIPP-C, CIPP-E, CIPM, CHPC are highly preferred.
  • Ability to identify and research legal risks and effectively counsel clients.
