Job summary

Welltower Inc. in the United States seeks a Sr. Manager, Compliance to lead the company’s compliance and data privacy efforts across healthcare real estate. You will shape policies, advise on privacy implications, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to uphold regulatory standards.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in healthcare compliance, strong HIPAA expertise, and familiarity with UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws. Travel is expected as part of this senior role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • CCP, HCCP certifications preferred.
  • At least 7 years of compliance experience in healthcare real estate.
  • Strong knowledge of US regulatory requirements and HIPAA.
  • Working knowledge of UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the organization.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive compliance program focusing on corporate compliance and data privacy.
  • Advise on privacy considerations for data initiatives and cross-functional contracts.
  • Review data processing agreements and business associate agreements; advise on privacy provisions in contracts.
  • Develop and deliver privacy and compliance training for employees and partners.
  • Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments as needed.
  • Continuously improve the effectiveness of compliance programs and processes.
  • Stay informed on regulatory developments and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams to implement privacy initiatives.

Job description

Summary

The Sr. Manager, Compliance for Welltower plays a pivotal role in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards within the healthcare real estate sector. This position requires a deep understanding of data privacy regulations and best practices, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of compliance and integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Improve, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program for the company and partner with key internal stakeholders to lead the compliance function, focusing on corporate compliance and data privacy and protection.
  • Develop, review, and update compliance policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on privacy and compliance considerations for data initiatives and partner cross-functionally to implement and support a privacy compliance framework.
  • Review and advise on data processing agreements and business associate agreements, as well as privacy provisions in corporate contracts.
  • Develop and ensure effective delivery of compliance and privacy training to new employees, employees, and business partners, as necessary.
  • Conduct and manage Privacy Impact Assessments as and when required.
  • Continuously assess and enhance the effectiveness of compliance programs and processes.
  • Stay informed about emerging compliance trends, regulatory developments, and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Research and analyze current and proposed laws and regulations that may impact the company and provide practical solutions and actionable guidance to cross‑functional teams.
  • Establish effective relationships with senior management and business partners throughout the company.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, finance, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA) preferred.
  • Certified Compliance Professional (CCP), Healthcare Compliance Certification (HCCP), or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy and Breach Notification Rules.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in compliance with a strong understanding of US regulatory requirements within the healthcare real estate sector and demonstrated knowledge of applicable compliance and data privacy regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the UK GDPR and Canadian privacy laws.
  • Proven ability to work with variety of stakeholders at all levels and effectively interact with cross‑functional teams and projects to promote compliance and privacy initiatives.
