Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician for our Chicago, IL facility. The role focuses on high-level mechanical, electrical, thermal, and fluid power maintenance on specialized production equipment in a rubber molding environment.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in industrial maintenance, PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley/Siemens), and the ability to read schematics. This is a day shift, onsite, full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial plant maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in rubber molding or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Technical trade school degree, vocational certification, or formal mechanical/electrical apprenticeship preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs.
  • Ability to read hydraulic schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and pneumatic layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair high-pressure hydraulic molding presses and related components.
  • Diagnose PLC-controlled systems up to 480V and read ladder logic.
  • Inspect and repair steam boiler lines, heating platens, temperature controllers, and cooling circuits.
  • Lead major machinery overhauls including bearings, gearboxes, and drive shafts.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and mentor junior technicians.

Job Overview

The Senior Maintenance Technician coordinates and performs high-level mechanical, electrical, thermal, and fluid power maintenance on specialized production equipment within a rubber molding manufacturing facility. This role focuses on minimizing machine downtime, diagnosing complex system failures, ensuring compliance with strict safety standards, and mentoring junior technicians. The ideal candidate possesses robust technical knowledge of high-pressure hydraulic presses, steam or electric heating platens, automated control systems, and heavy industrial machinery.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair multi-stage high-pressure hydraulic molding presses, accumulators, cylinders, directional valves, and proportional pumps.
  • Diagnose automated machinery inputs/outputs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), industrial sensors, relays, and PLC-controlled systems up to 480V.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair steam boiler lines, electric heating platens, temperature controllers, hot oil heating units, and cooling water tower circuits.
  • Lead major machinery overhauls, including replacing large bearings, gearboxes, drive shafts, and automated transport mechanisms.
  • Safely execute heavy rigging to relocate or realign molding presses and equipment.
  • Execute, document, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Audit parts inventory and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Lead emergency troubleshooting during active production breakdowns.
  • Assign daily work orders, monitor progress, and mentor junior maintenance technicians.
  • Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and all company safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial plant maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience in a rubber molding, plastic injection molding, or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Technical trade school degree, vocational certification, or formal mechanical/electrical apprenticeship preferred.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and pneumatic layouts.
  • Verified Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, and overhead crane certifications are preferred.
  • Proficiency using digital multimeters, insulation testers, hydraulic pressure gauges, precision micrometers, welding equipment, and heavy rigging tools.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

  • Climb ladders, work at heights, crawl into confined spaces, and stand or walk on concrete floors for 8–12-hour shifts.
  • Work around elevated temperatures, steam systems, chemical odors, and high-noise manufacturing environments while wearing required PPE.
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

This position will be based at our Chicago, IL facility with no anticipated travel. This is a fully site-based position.

Pay Range

Starting pay will range from $40.00–$45.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, hourly position.
