Job summary

U.S. Silica is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance at our Lamesa, TX facility. This role ensures safe, reliable operation of plant equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement programs.

The Maintenance Manager provides leadership to the maintenance team and partners with Operations to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime, directing planning, RCA efforts, and capital projects as needed.

U.S. Silica is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance activities at our Lamesa, Texas facility. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment and supporting systems through effective preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement programs.

The Maintenance Manager provides leadership and direction to the maintenance team while partnering closely with Operations and other site functions to maximize equipment availability, minimize unplanned downtime, and support production goals. This role will oversee maintenance planning and execution, analyze equipment failures, identify opportunities to improve reliability, and ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all facility maintenance activities, including preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of production equipment and supporting systems.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and ownership, ensuring maintenance activities are performed in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and established safe work practices.
• Identify opportunities to reduce workplace risk through employee engagement, training, hazard identification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide leadership, coaching, development, and performance management for maintenance employees, supervisors, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Plan, prioritize, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities based on production requirements, equipment criticality, safety considerations, and available resources.
• Partner with Operations and production planning teams to coordinate scheduled maintenance and minimize disruption to plant operations.
• Conduct and/or lead root cause analyses (RCA) of equipment failures and recurring maintenance issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Monitor equipment performance and maintenance trends to identify opportunities to improve reliability, availability, efficiency, and equipment life.
• Conduct regular equipment and facility inspections to identify existing and potential maintenance needs.
• Recommend equipment upgrades, replacements, modifications, and process improvements to increase reliability and operational performance.
• Develop and maintain an effective preventive and predictive maintenance program designed to reduce unplanned downtime and improve overall equipment reliability.
• Review incoming maintenance requests, establish priorities, and ensure work is completed safely and within appropriate timeframes.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, repair histories, inspection documentation, and other required records.
• Manage maintenance-related contractors and vendors, ensuring work meets established safety, quality, cost, and performance expectations.
• Support maintenance budgeting, cost control, forecasting, capital planning, and strategic maintenance initiatives.
• Monitor departmental performance and establish appropriate maintenance and reliability metrics to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure appropriate spare parts, materials, tools, and resources are available to support maintenance activities.
• Administer departmental policies and procedures and evaluate maintenance team performance against established goals and expectations.
• Collaborate with site leadership to develop and implement maintenance strategies that support short- and long-term business objectives.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Maintenance Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field, with relevant maintenance, reliability, or industrial operations experience, including previous leadership or management responsibility; or minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in maintenance, reliability, or industrial operations experience, including previous leadership or management responsibility, in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Previous maintenance leadership experience within mining, aggregates, sand processing, heavy industrial manufacturing, or a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance principles, preventive and predictive maintenance programs, troubleshooting, equipment reliability, and root cause analysis.
• Demonstrated experience leading maintenance teams and managing employee performance, development, and day-to-day work activities.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems commonly found in industrial or manufacturing environments.
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance needs in a fast-paced production environment while balancing safety, reliability, production, and cost.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Engineering, Safety, and other departments.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and maintenance planning/scheduling.
• Experience developing and managing maintenance budgets, contractors, and capital improvement projects.
• Knowledge of MSHA requirements and regulations applicable to mining operations.
