Job summary

Underdog.io is hiring a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to drive AI-powered matching and recommendations. This remote-first or NYC-hybrid role puts you at the forefront of ML/AI development in a fast-paced marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of private companies.

You will lead a senior engineering team, establish ML/MLOps best practices, and collaborate with product and business stakeholders to align AI initiatives with company objectives. Strong production ML experience is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of AI/ML experience delivering consumer/B2B software improvements.
• Strong production expertise in building, modifying, and scaling recommendation systems and engines.
• Proficiency with SQL and data warehouses (e.g., AWS Redshift) for analytics.

Responsibilities

Lead Machine Learning Engineer (Remote first or hybrid NYC)

What You’ll Take On

You will be the pioneering force for ML and advanced technologies within our senior, tight-knit engineering team. Your work will directly upgrade our core matching and recommendation systems, delivering immense value to our users.

• You will design, develop, and deploy ML/AI-driven models to enhance our matching engines, industry classification systems, and core product features.


• You will help establish ML and MLOps best practices, laying the technical groundwork for sustained AI/ML development for years to come.


• You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to define and execute AI strategies that are directly aligned with our core business objectives.


• You will optimize AI and machine learning models for performance, accuracy, and scalability, ensuring they integrate reliably into our production platform.


• You will develop and refine our recommendation systems, applying techniques in NLP, deep learning, and predictive analytics to fundamentally improve buyer-seller matchmaking.


• You will create clear documentation and visualizations to communicate complex insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Who You Are

You are a technically excellent leader who thrives on ownership and building from the ground up.

• You have 5 years of experience using AI/ML and related technologies to materially improve consumer or B2B software experiences.


• You possess strong production expertise specifically in building, modifying, and scaling machine learning recommendation systems and engines.


• You are familiar with SQL and data warehouses (e.g., AWS Redshift) for powering AI-driven analytics.


• You have outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and drive initiatives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
